Topic: How about looking in the manual.... CSTOLL - Page: 3

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I'm the low man on the totem pole... I registered just to comment.

I find it utterly appalling that employees of any company would conduct themselves in such a poor manner. Regardless of who read ( or didn't read) the manual, customers who contact or seek information about any product or service should be given the utmost respect. what's happened to the sense of service today? I can understand the frustration but people are paid to provide a service. I can hear the crowd now, if "I" was to tell a client to find something rudely I could be very well out of the job.

Sarcasm aside, comments less than courteous have no use. They are the 1st step down a slippery slope to being like your local walmart.

I have read the manual and refer to it often...I think cstoll did a nice job on it ;)

What you are missing here sir is the fact that from the Teamers down to the VIPS are here VOLUNTARY. Most of these users have answered at least 85% of the questions already. I would say if users learned how to use the SEARCH feature in this forum they would probably find the solution to their issue. And 95% of the users who would actually READ the MANUAL would find their answer. The truth is CSTOLL was the one who actually wrote nearly all of the manual.

The service you recieve here is probably far more better than you would recieve anywhere else and remember most of us here answer voluntary.

I am taking that first step down the slippery slope, watching my Walmart stock rise, as they report record second quarter profits, which is utterly appalling. Or is it mildly annoying? No, wait..........maybe it's Simply Irresistible.

Scotto got a point...
New users or most users, dont read the manual from A to B, and even if they do, they read fast through it, and forget some, or dont understand some..

the whole point of having a forum is to give answers and support when someone asks, even if its voluntary to do so;)

Thats what makes a community, and the forum useful ...

some will read manual, some will search forum, some will post questions... and all are equally welcome .. of course ;)

"I find it utterly appalling that employees of any company would conduct themselves in such a poor manner. "

Most new users will react exactly like that, when confronted at their first visit to a forum with "go read the manual" ...

Its not very welcomming or service minded ;)

If you dont want to give an answer in a thread (tired, frustrated, or what ever else), just leave it to someone else to do so ...

Happy mixin you all

I have had issues (small issues) over the years with VDJ. I started with VDJ v3.0. I upgraded from that to 3.4 and was HAPPY with the program. Thats why I STILL have and use v3.4.

My issues with VDJ are not with the software at all but my lack of knowledge on computers. I know Sooooooo much about dj'ing, pro sound, equipment, speakers, amps, and so on and so forth but soooo little about computers.

Sometimes the manual does not answer the question in a way one could apply to their situation. Sometimes you need to be a computer programmer to understand what to do. sometimes you need a degree in computer science just to understand what is being discussed.

I can, have, and will help anyone with whatever I "CAN" help with but i'm no computer wizz. Directories, values, files, folders, regedits, ram, virtual memory, filepath, WTF???

I don't know about any of that stuff. I only know how to DJ, how to build a great soundsystem, and how to hook up equipment, what gear is good, great or sucks and why.

These are the reasons that some of ask more questions than others here on the forums. I have done searches for answers, read the manual and found answers that I just did not understand cause...I'm NOT a computer wizz. I'm just a DJ.

This forum is GREAT. I love the software and have put alot of dj's here on the east coast (D.C. Md., Va., N.Y.C.) up on VDJ. I have turned SSL users onto VDJ and they love it.

Bottom line to all this is...YES the manual NEEDS to be read. YES folks NEED to do searches to find answers but just like many of us who joined up years ago, new dj's that don't know, just don't know.

Thank you all for the help you have provided throughout the years.

VDJ IS THE BEST DJ PROGRAM OUT THERE. PERIOD.

Maybe I just need to go to school for computers...

Naww....I'll just go to the club and rock out with VDJ.

I know you guys will teach me whatever I need to know.

Just remember that you don't know what I need to be taught until I ask the question.

Much love 2 ya all.

"There are no stupid Questions, only stupid answers"

" The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked "

and you're totally right DJ City... people arent homogenious, therefor no manual can ever cover all the questions any user might have.
Ergo, we have a forum, where one can ask questions, of any kind, and hopefully get friendly good answers.

:)

I agree with most, pretty much in the same boat. I've tried using manuals and the biggest problem is searching, putting in the right search question to get the answer you need. On many occasions ( not just with VDJ) I can't find the answer because I'm not speaking 'manual talk', it's much easier to try a forum. Then you can explain in English what the problem is and if you don't quite get your point across, somebody will come back and ask you to expand/explain in more depth, manuals can't do this :o)

So teamers can probably look at a post on here requesting information and go "Oh yeah that's in section 4, paragraph 6, line 12" GO FIND. It's, in my basic view not always that easy. Just a thought ;o)

I think most people try to help regardless including teamers.
If you ask a question it will usually get answered by someone.

The repetitious questions that get complicated with some users who won't do anything to help themselves is why the detail went into the user guide.
Its the same reason the wiki was created.

Then we have users who just don't know these aids exist.
Many don't even know the manual is on their system with the install because we have to tell them when they ask in eservice.

So there are several schools of thought on this and good grounds to refer people as has been done.

I don't fault anybody for suggesting it even if it seems like a pattern.
I am not a manual guy myself and I find it extrordinary in the way it is laid out and very user friendly as manuals go.
The same goes for the wiki and yes search key words are important as always.

Would it be better if nobody pointed unkowing users in the right direction?

I think we all need to read it personally.
There are too many features to familiarize yourself with to not read it put it that way.

If any one of you were the one that spent the time to create it, you'd be pointing people just the same way as Chris does.

Think for a moment what it would be like if there was no such guide or wiki because nobody cared enough to create it.

Now THAT would be a bitch and this forum would be flooded with threads on threads about the same things over and over again.

There has to be a limit, and the message must be sent for the sake of helping the user and the forum readers who get frustrated by it.

I think the message has been sent, sliced, diced, poked and stoked so this puppy should be closed before any more heat comes from it.
