You can read the above bullshit, but can't pick up the manual? Exactly how do those subscriptions, help you with VDJ? First you cry about the answers you get, and want to be forced fed the info, and the next sentence you want us to get a life away from the forum. So braniac, how would you get you info then, if we weren't here? I can tell by your reading material you are confused, I'm just trying to figure out the degree of confusion.

The link for the manual doesn't work and PDFs are an annoyance. It's far quicker to search a website than it is to download and load up a possible couple of mb PDF file and then search through it. Some people may not even know how to download the manual as their browser will handle it in the browser. Those still using FF1.5 (not many) may even get crashes. I don't like PDF much.

Hey, would you guys please stop with the crying, and excuses. I can't do this, I don't have time for that, I need to take a crap, but don't have time to sit on the toilet. Will someone please help me? Waaaa, Waaaaaaa, Waaaaaaaaaaaa. I know you lazy ^%$#@!&*^(#@ don't want to search for anything, but search for cstoll, and see how many people he has helped on this forum, and how many times he has said look in the manual. The difference is astronomical. No one, and I mean no one is saying that they will not help you. My problem is you guys have the audacity, to pitch a fit, because some one told you where to find the info. This guy has spent hours and hours updating the manual, after each new feature and update. So what you are saying is, "puck you and your little manual". If you are too busy to take a look, than tough shit, that is your problem. There is a difference between being civil, and kissing your lazy asses. What did you geniuses do before forums? If you can't take the answer, don't ask the question. We do not have to answer you the way you want us to, all wrapped up in a pretty little box. How you can possibly take offense with "look in the manual", is ridiculous and petty. Here's an idea. The next time you go to sit on the toilet, take the manual and leave that other silly reading material, on the coffee table.

Feelin' you pain here man as I also do some application end user manual production in my day job and it absolutely p1sses me off when I get users contacting me asked me stuff I know is in the manual I spend weeks producing!
However, recently I was shocked to find some big analyst company (Gartner I think) produced stats saying that the percentage of people who receive an applications manual during a formal training course, who then go on to actually even open the bloody thing is only 8%. Shocking. And bare in mind these guys monitor the IT marketplace so this is predominantly technical courses for technical people who you'd think would know better!
So despite all the best efforts of people like you and me, users on the whole just prefer to be able to ask someone what to do. Annoying but fact.
My most recent solution was to take one of the manuals I'd produced and rendered it to HTML, and posted it as a highlight link on the users main screen as they entered the app. One big long mother of a HTML page, but somehow because it is available as a link in the very place they already are, I've had quite a lot of positive feedback that they really like the new manual. (which of course is exactly the same as the original PDF, just in HTML format!).
So maybe rendering the manual to HTML and posting it up to the site under a new online manual's section would just encourage people to use it a bit more, just because they are already on the forum anyway, and it should be no different to searching the forum sections, just search the manual section.
I'd be happy to help out if you think it's a good idea, just PM me with some details.

More companies should do this, although split up appropriately. I've noticed Adobe do it with their software, it even supports a javascript search which works fairly decently. I think the manual does already exist in the Wiki although that seems dead for the moment.
But I think another problem, is if you're not going to bundle a software with a manual and force the user to come to the official site to rectify their problem, you cannot deny them to ask questions on the forum, perhaps the search should search the wiki's manual too.

And the Wiki has a search for it ... and once I finish moving the data from the old wiki to the new then people will be able t search the entire wiki as well ....

This is all politics to me, but I think I like the "YES WE CAN" type better..(kinda like the debate my folks are having now - that inspiration is better than sex..tsk tsk).......though this is very funny....
I have the read the manual and refer to it from time to time because I would feel ignorant asking something whose answer lies therein.....its actually faster than waiting for responses Funk..

When I was in the Marines I fixed helicopters. You did not dare go out to the flightline to work on aircraft without the manual tucked under your arm. It was forbidden to try to remember any type of maintenance procedure. Everything was in the Manual. Step-by-step procedures. Materials and tools needed. Torque settings, temperature markings, pressure indications. Testing and troubleshooting. Removal and replacement procedures. Illustrated parts break down.....
You get the picture.
That's why I get pissed when I read poorly written manuals.
I had the VDJ Manual printed out, in document protectors and in a binder the same day I downloaded the trial version! A week and a half before I even bought the software....

guys.... its pain I know... .but the reading the manual makes life more knowledgeable.
I have watched countless vdj users play where I am from... don't even know to set a cue... don't know the purpose of cgbs etc. dont even know that they can scan a hard drive for bpms etc... don't know how to adjust the bpm etc. .. don't even know how to change or create a keyboard shortcut......
Yet they have been using the program for more than a year... on a regular basis
I have studied the manual..... and honestly it is quite simple.. with images to help its explanation all the way..... which has shown me how to mix and improved my mixing tremendously. I have learned a lot just going through the manual
And I am bombarded with questions.... "Go read the manual".. it is as simple as that.
They should try reading.........Sony Vegas.. 400 page manual.... now thats a doozer....
