Topic: Denon DNS-1200 vs Pioneer CDJ-400 - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Hi everybody.

I´ve read a lot between this two new controllers, and as I read more, I get more confused on which one is the best...

For example, as I read the Denon manual, I´ve discovered, that it don´t have support for MP3 CD... I don´t know why but thats it.

Or in the case of the pioneer, you´re not able to deactivate the master tempo, is always on...

So maybe we could post the big differences between this two CD, to get as info as possible while choosing between them.

Cheers!

This Is a full comparison between the two player taken from this site( http://www.denondjforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=10095&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&sid=428fd065247209ec2a72f29b461d713c&start=18)

CDJ400 vs S1200:
-No WAV File support by USB
-USB Speed 1.1 vs our fast 2.0
-No Touch Sensitive Jog
-No Hot Starts, S1200 has two
-Only one Loop vs two on the S1200
-No Brake function
-No Advanced Search Options (S1200 has 8-ways to find a file)
-Does not support hard drives over 287GB, (S1200 can handle Terabytes)
-No device database system (scans drive at each connection, could take 10-min or longer before ready, each time!)
-No Keyboard support for fast searching
-No playlist options
-Supports 20K files per device vs S1200 50K
-No Music Manager App. to manage your hard drive files and prepare playlists
-No D-Link to share data (Memo's, keyboard, Relat Play) between two players
-Its bigger than the S1200
-It cost $200 more than the S1200

All of these wonderful extra compelling features that Denon DJ offers over the Pioneer is geared and focused around "you".
Our goal is to Add creativity to your mix and excell your remixing skills to the next level, isn't that our driving passion and why we do all this for?

You can buy Pio for silly reasons like, “all the clubs use them” with no compelling reason as to why (lol)
Or you can do your homework and compare apples to apples on what your paying for.
Denon DJ offers 17-years of proven reliability, durability performance and advanced features that has set the stage for the entire “digital age” of DJs.

Pioneer hides their product weaknesses through their expensive marketing campaigns that you end up paying for through their super inflated prices.

A CDJ1000MK3 is not worth $1499, it worth $699 based on what it can do "overall" vs our S3500 or even S1200.

I have nothing against Denon. But I had only trouble with a pair of dns3500. 1 of them I change it 2 times for a new one after same problem in the cd slot mechanism. Both of them doesnt read CDs that my old CMX-3000 reads fine. Last month I sold them. And Im looking for a new table tops units that work with VDJ, probably I will go for the CDJs 800.

Thats only my case. It desnt mean that anyone have the same luck as me. I have a friend that have 2 DNs-2600, one of them (the newest one) have some issues with cds and the older one reads whatever with no prob.

I currently have the HC-4500 coupled with a DNx500 and cant be more happier with them. Outstanding performance at 100%.

Just my personal opinion, go and play with both of them at a local store and pick the one that you feel that fits better for your needs. Both brands are the best

Thank you a lot for your support!

Deffineteley I think that the Denon DNS-1200 are better, but I don´t know why denon "forget" to make MP3 CD a valid format for this CD player.

And the other issue, is the Pioneer light! xD is really cool...this doesen´t matter, but is provide a good effect for the unit.

P.D: A separate question, I´m going to buy the PRO license becouse the MK2 version and another old version of the hercules DJ console 1st version, are too old...but I want to know if I purchase the PRO license there are free updates available, or when a new update is available you have to pay again...

For example, now is version 5.1 so, when version 6 arrives, you have to pay another time?

Thank you a lot!!!

I personally dont think that they "forgot". Denon always doesnt relase a unit with all the features that can a player do. Im sure that will add the feature in a future firmware update. They had forgot the mp3 format playable in others units and after a while they release an update to fix bugs and some new features.

Until today, if you buy VDJ PRO, your license is forever and for the future versions incoming too!. Thats one of the reasons why I bought it too!

Cheers!, Hope to see you soon as a PRO User.

Thank you a lot for your answer RicardoM.

I hope Denon will look for this on his firmware!, becouse for me is the only spec that I miss.

So there are free upgrades, really interesting. I will wait till finish my September exams, and maybe I will purchase the DJ Console RMX (and get discount on Virtual) or get 2 Denon DNS-1200, I donn´t knpw, but I will think about it after my exams, becouse now this forum and all the news are insane for my exams xD

Thamk you a lot for your help!

As I say, now I´m Proffesional user :) :) :)

Also if you notice the S1200 only has RCA output where as the CDJ-400 has 3 different kinds of output just something to think about

The Pioneer CDJ 400 is better. Go to the store and check them out side by side and you will notice that the Denon feels cheaper. The jog wheel is not sturdy like the CDJ 400. I see many people trying to sell there used denon 1200s on craigslist to buy something else. They end up getting pioneer instead

To DyDY... Pioneer cdjs are the best selling cd players from all. The reason why clubs use them is because its reliable. You wont see lens erors or problems with the motor like Denon. Pioneers are like technics 1200s, they can take a beating. Clubs pick what is know to take a beating and its not denon. This is the reason why clubs use them....... Reliability is worth more than denons alittle more features. Many wish to own a pair of cdj 1000mk3s.... Denon is a good brand but not better than pioneer.

The Pioneer CDJ 1000 vs 3500s is a joke. The winner is the CDJ 1000 any time

Scratching great compared to scratching wack.

also ignore what i said here i was thinking of mixers and not the cd players...anyway from what i have read in reviews the cdj-400 is much better than the s1200

Guys I need you to understand one thing. I am not a representative of the Denon company nor do I have any affiliation with them.
Please do not let my avatar fool you. I am simply a DJ, a customer and a user. I was simply stating some facts.

Just like you guys have the rights to express your opinions and likings more toward Pioneer mine are toward Denon.

I did read on both The Pionneer CDJ-400 and on the Denon DN-S1200. I went thru several DJ stores and play with both brands.
I did some serious homework. i weigh the Pros and Cons and decided the Denon DN-S1200 ergonomically was better design, aesthetically better looking, more functions, It Is sturdily built, and compact.

furthermore, more bang for less Dollars or Euros lol.

One of you mentioned that the CDJ-400 has three output options that Is false.

Just like the DN-S1200 the CDJ-400 has one Digital output and two RCA outputs.

Right about now there Is noway I would trade my DN-S1200 for the CDJ-400.

like i said in my last post i was thinking of mixers and not the cdj's

This Is the rear section of the Denon DNX120 mixer. 4 RCA Imputs two RCA outputs and two quater inch Balanced outputs, lastly one quater inch mic imput.

Now, Pioneer rear DMJ-400 mixer. 4 RCA outputs, 4 RCA Inputs, two quater inch mic inputs.

Furthermore, In my humble opinion I rather have two unbalanced RCA outputs and two Balanced Outputs on the DNX120 DJ mixer than have four unbalanced outputs on the DMJ-400 mixer.

Balanced output Is a must for me on a DJ mixer. A great deal of PA system like my Dynacord D-Lite 2000 and the Dynacord DSP244 audio controller will work with no annoyingbuzzing sound when I use balanced quater inch Mixer outputs, but will buzz when I use RCA outputs on a mixer.

There you have It.

The 1/4 inch unbalanced is a good feature for the outputs of a mixer or crossover etc, but what dj mixer has a 1/4 inch input as a line 1 or 2. They use rca jacks..

Welcome aboard to the pro side Javichu;)

Caliente, come again? I think you got It wrong. The DN-S1200 Has two balanced 1/4 inch outputs not unbalanced 1/4 outputs.

The one 1/4 inch Imput Is only for the mic Line.

Are you telling me unbalanced 1/4 inch output is better than balanced 1/4 inch outputs?

only 1/4 inch input the DNX120 has Is the mic input which Is the only advantage that the DMJ-400 possess. DMJ-400 has two 1/4 inch inputs for two mics. On the DNX-120 I use a 1/4 inch splitter to connect my two channel wireless mics.

The DMJ-400 only has unbalanced RCA outputs which Is a disadvantage for a mixer when connected to some PA system which work better with balanced 1/4 inch or balanced XLR inputs.

Im saying that a dj mixer doesnt have the 1/4 inch input as a line

A full comparison is nice but when it's taken from Denon's forum's there is a conflict of interest there.

Where is the comparison for hardware faults Denon vs Pioneer? You wont see Denon bragging about that one.

Thank you a lot for your welcome!

Definetly, both Denon and Pioneer products had a lot of features, but the thing is that the Pioneer is too expensive, as all the Pioneer DJ products.

Cheers!

Does Pioneer even have a user forum to make that argument?
