Besides JBL, Mackies and Yamahas, does anyone have an opinion, based on experience, as to which are the better powered speakers among American Audio, Gem Sound, Behringer and Peavy? I'm just starting out, so unfortunately, price IS an object. Thanks in advance for all replies.

I use Yorkville, always have.
Came from the recommendation of a sound engineer.

Priced a little higher than most dj budgets though.
Most djs follow the JBL/Mackie route because....aah....well....umm....they are like sheep?
Ya, that's it..................

My advice is to seek out a sound room and beat the snot out of them all.
Yep, if price is the objective, you will be buying again that much is for sure.
I have enough of that shit to have a hell of a yard sale.

I've used Peavy for many years and they are great!!!

Only thing is that they are normally meant for instruments and concerts, not for DJing. But either way they're still great.

model I have been using and still use today are blackwidows

Best Regards

alesis M1s. can get a pair for about 220 GBP and they put out tons of bass for compact monitors.
bi-amped and flat response curve down to 50Hz

Mackie & Sheep in the same utterance is just wrong Rick.
My 450s, 350s, and 1500 have performed as expected gig
in and gig out for several years. I have not seen, heard, or
tried Yorkvilles' yet however. Do you have any 450s you'd
like to yard sale? I'd love to find another set. Pre-China
definitely.

Sorry if I stepped on your toes Tom, but you know the way these threads always go, I piss in your chereos and you piss in mine, lol.

I have seen a couple of high end djs using 450's and they sound stressed, I wondered if the guy was deaf.
Granted, proper eq and room set up is critical.
I think some speakers are less problematic than others in a given room.

Personally I find Mackie to be more of a name.
But I do have a new pair of B300's available cheap if anyone is interested.

This is what I am running now.

For larger gigs or gyms I add these.

If I do a small venue or room I use these with the subs on sticks.

That's a tough range to cover with just one set of speakers, having options is what its all about.
It does come at a price though.

I second that. I have four 12" EV powered speakers in one of my systems and they are killer. Can't beat JBL though. But on a budget EV is good. On a REALLY TIGHT budget, the much aligned Peavey is a good bang for the buck. Behringer is also putting out some good stuff at really low prices.

At $399 USD a piece, you can't go wrong with Cyder's recommendation.

I'm suprised no one has even mentioned Renkus Heinz. Those are easily the best sounding speakers I've heard:

http://www.renkus-heinz.com/

I use them at my gig at Diamonds in Brea. I also like the sound of the B-52 speakers. Me personally, I own JBL EON 15 powered speakers. They sound OK, but nothing like the Renkus Heinz.

I noticed that the US Military bands use them.
They do sound good.

do not use gemini gx 350's
2ce i have used these speakers at a party. Blew them!!!!!!
Completely died... wouldn't even turn on. Sent them back, they fixed them.
Blew them again. Stay away from them. They are not the cheapest but they should hold some power.. especially w/ their amp that's put in there by them!!!!!
Makes no sense.

Price + Quality: Behringer B300. For me these are better choice for a small budget.

For $299.00 It's a very good price... Note: I use them with a subwoofer and the sound is very good.
