I have just downloaded the mobile app to an android tablet and it says "waiting for VirtualDJ connection" but ahs been 20 minutes now! is there something else I need to do?

In VirtualDJ Settings->CONTROLLERS tab -> Phone/Tablet button at the top.
You need to select your device you see in there and then "Connect"
