What's the best car ? Price is not an issue... :P
There's no definite answer on your question. It all depends on what you want it do, what you need to do and what's your style when you're playing music.
For others the best controller would be 2 CDJ-2000 and a DJM900 NXS, for others a Numark NS6/NS7 (or the upcoming NS7 Version II) for others Pioneer DDJ-SX, fot others Vestax VCI-400, Denon MC6000, Allen&Heath Xone 4D e.t.c...

That's like asking "what's the best food?" or "what's the best car?"...
The answer is "it depends". It depends on your own personal taste & requirements.
The "best" controller for one DJ might be the "worst" for another.
That's why there are so many choices now - no single controller satisfies everyone. If it did, it would be "the best".

The best controller out there is the one that is affordable to YOU. Has the features YOU will use. Fits what YOU are looking to do.
But if you are asking for MY opinion. I like the NS7 and the Pioneer DDJ - SX. NS7 for the turntablist in me and the DDJ-SX cause I like have some music production style features in the controller.

Granted, I mix alot of Hard House and Trance as just a hobbyist, but I run VDJ through just an external soundcard and mixer. Having been playing like this from the off, and configured every key on the keyboard to do just about everything a controller can (perhaps not quite so smoothly as I'd like sometimes, after all, a dial or slider IS better than a button press for smooth adjustment of, say, effects), and learned to play like that.
Don't get me wrong, I tried using a controller with both VDJ and Traktor, but because I've no desire to learn to scratch, because I've tweaked my software 'just so', because I've practised and practiced, I can happily wile away a couple of hours or so stringing tracks together quite smoothly.
Although, I'd imagine, turning up to a gig with just a lappy would look a bit odd. At least showing up with a mixer and that many cables too makes you look a lbit more professional...
Like what has already been said, try as many ways as you can, see what fits you best...

People, don't get me wrong, I know asking that question, the answer will be a bit wide in opinions, I been mixing with Numark Total Control, American Audio VMS4, CDJ1000MK3 with DJM-800, and many more.
I've been a VDJ Pro User about 7 years now, and for me is the most versatile software on the market, I've mixed on VDJ Radio in the past (not anymore b/c free time issue), but I've been finding some trouble with VDJ with their output sound (sound engine), I Dj'ed for the New years Party at the beach among 2 dj's from Ibiza and one of them had the Traktor S4, and the diference on output sound was incredibly better than mine regardless of me having all my music at 320 k @ mp3, WMA and Flac 1028 k, so after 7 years it did got me thinking.
I've been looking at the Pioneer DDJ-SX, the Brand new NS7II, but after New Year's Party I've been considering Traktor S4.
Please help me out this one guys, specially the DEV Team, you know I've been a loyal VDJ User for a long time now, but now that I'm a Resident DJ at the most important and popular Club here in Guatemala I have to have the best there is, in quality and sound.
Thanks

ohhhhh...I forgot.....as many or all of you said....depends on taste, style and budget then here are my answers
1. Style: I mix House, Deep House, Vocal House, Elektro House, Club Anthems, etc.
2. Scratch: I have never scratch in my life...in fact...I don't know how ( after 25 of mixing...jajajajaja )
3. Budget: no budget, but if you may know ( $800.00 - $1,200.00 )
I like to do Loops, Rolls, effects, and all the gadgets VDJ have I do used them almost in every song, like to do Mash ups and remixes on the spot.
Thanks

It won't be a limit on the output of VDJ, it is a limit of your current soundcard, you could get away with just upgrading that and keeping your current controller.
It is hard to say what controller to go with as there are the factors of what the club already has and how much space is available for your stuff.. If I were still playing clubs I'd get a xone k2 and an RME Fireface then just use the decks in HID if they're from the new generation. That setup would be easy to set up and carry and shi* all over the S4's sound quality... If you want to save about $1000 on the soundcard just get an NI audio 4/6/8/10.. they all have a louder output than the S4.. I have also seen skrillex run a stadiums sound off an Audio 2 but cant couch for it's quality up loud.

With the input you've just given I'd look real hard at the Pioneer DDJ-SX. That controller excites me. :)
If it's possible, go by your nearest shop and see if they have some controllers in stock that you can get your hands on.

I use the denon mc6000 and absolutely love it with virtual dj. Best controller I have ever owned.

Vestax VCI400 if you want something you can easily carry around - I have mine in a flight case, but I think, it's just about small enough to put in certain DJ backpacks. The sound quality on the Vestax is fantastic, I can't compare to an S4 because I've never used one, but I used to run off an Echo AudioFire sound card (renowned for excellent quality) and I think the Vestax compares nicely.
As others are saying, if there's more free space in your DJ booth, the DDJ-SX is the one to have right now. The only criticism I've heard of it is that the jog wheels aren't as loose as some, so you can't do long spin backs.
However, if you really want to roll with the big kids, I think just plug your laptop into a pair of CDJ2000s and use something like an NI X1 to control loops and effects. Then you're using the pioneers as the sound cards too, so you'll definitely have sound as good as anyone else.
Hope that helps.
Andy.

You and I have around the same time in the business and play about the same type of music. Plus, just like you, I don't scratch either. Never did, never took the time to learn it. Scratching wasn't for me. So to answer your question or at least give you my opinion, I would give the Numark NS6 a try. Especially, since they dropped the price. However, like another poster said, that Pioneer DDJ-SX looks really sweet. I'm actually considering trading in my NS6 for the DDJ-SX. I spent a lot of time researching the NS6. I came from Technics MK 1200's and didn't want to get just anything, wanted the best at the time I was looking. Good luck on your venture and please let us know what you decided on getting.

Numark NS7 has been good to me. Getting the 2nd gen NS7 II as soon as it's out. The DDJSX is nice, but I already sold it, because I prefer the moving platters and the layout of the Numark.

As far as high end controllers go, I had the NS6 and I really did love it, but when the DDJ-SX came out I jumped ship as I was a long time Pioneer fan back from the first CDJ-500 series. I'm truly in love with the SX, I'm not a scratcher so I can't attest to the 'slightly too stiff platter' chat I've read here and there, but other than that I find it as closer to perfection than I had ever dreamed of getting before it was announced. I still have 1000mk3 and 1200 attached to it too, although it's very rare they get used, the SX is just too enjoyable for me to go elsewhere.

I would go with the Pioneer vdj2000 quad deck set up then if money isn't an option. While your at it. You can send me a set of the decks as well :-D But if you are considering that.. you might want to take a look at the Pioneer DDJ-SX super sick and you probably will feel more at home with the Cdj2000s after you have played with that deck for a while.. I am tempted myself to buy the Pioneer DDJ-SX controller, but eh.. I have tuition I have to pay..
In all seriousness I am in love with the Stanton SCS 1D, SCS 1M decks at the moment that I am considering buying 2 more SCS 1D decks, but I will have to see if I can even link 4 of them together. And if 4 of them at the same time are compatible with VDJ. Which If anyone knows PM me because. I probably won't be checking on this thread that much.
All controllers have their ups and downs though.
But hey since I grew up out in the middle of no where.. Someone once asked me which HandGun is the best of the best..
My super short reply was which ever one you can shoot extremely well, and that you can afford.
The fact is if you can mix and dj extremely well with a 200.00 controller, but you decided to buy a 10,000 dollar dj controller set up but you can't dj well with it. What good is it to you if you can't do your thing with it? and what is the point of having it?

I love the sound quality I get out of my Denon MC3000. A little heavy but it does. I also like all the features it has. I got a lot of learning and exploring to do with that controller.

Numark Mixdeck Quad with 2 LPD8's will dust a DDJSX in my opinion Plus you can use flash/thumb drives or CDs with it.......
