I bulid custom arcade cabinets their is a device I use called a iPAC you can buy them at http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html . It converts arcade buttons to keystrokes over 56 inputs. They also make a version with leds. You could make yourself a killer controller! super easy interface.

I used to use a Hercules RMX and to compensate for the buttons I grabbed the first available midi device I had around which was a Line6 Guitar effector. Nevertheless, it worked great for the extra dials!

Wanna use a banana as controller? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfQqh7iCcOU

That thing is awesome but it's actualy a variation of the keyboard, so there's not much to do with that.
A keyboard mod will be more effective. Did someone try this?
How about a joystick or some other HID device? Does someone here understand HID Trace and the process of creating a definition file to use a HID device with VirtualDJ ?

Anybody got an Ideea for an easy jogwheel build / design ? Something with a button underneath it so it can 'sense' you wanna scratch or just pitchbend.
I'm thinking 33 RPM vinyl discs on top will look cool and as close to real and compact, since it's only 7", close to 8" the size of CDJ1000 jogwheel. I say compact because the 45 RPM discs have a 12" size.

There is tooling available, but controllers and such work only with the pro version, as well as the tooling is only available for pro users

Please, don't let the version stop you from showing others what you know.

Anything is possible using any HID or Midi device. The mapper combined with Virtual DJ script is very powerful. Its all in the SDK in the wiki part of this website.

Get yourself a pro version, register it and all is magically revealed!

I don't understand that, all I need is some help with HID definition files. That's all.

Pern, one of the forum bods on here came up with a joystick-to-midi patch a few years back. Get hold of a usb pc joystick, rip the control board out of it, and there's plenty of switch and pot inputs available for making your own controller...

I'm at the moment working on a couple of DIY MIDI controller systems, The first one is a small desktop version with the following functionality:

And it's an USB MIDI device that you just connect to the computer.
I will publish them as DIY projects (with complete build instructions etc.) on my DIY website as soon as they are finished since the project is to large to have here.

@djsherz
It's a good thing to do, but what about the HID definition file? How to make buttons work?
The links above don't actualy offer a good working example.

Did anyone try to modify a jogwheel to go with a motor? Something like an actual spining turntable.
