So 14 to 18 years old means you will need at least one sub. I would try to rent one for now. What I meant about mixing is, do you beat mix, or fade out and fade in each song? If you are a beat mixer, you will have to adjust to the echo in the gym. If you are behind the speakers, there will be a delay in the time the song comes out of the speaker and when you hear it.

@ caliente & jbart 19-- THANKS for the sites and advice!!! those subs look almost new! ill call as soon as i get a bit more money (only got 250 right now =[) but thnx you guys are the bomb!

@ AMAHM- im guessing just one because they dont really care much for the art of djing?? and yea i like to beat mix, keep a continuous flow. sometimes i might fade out and bring another in, but i use that sparingly however. SO this echo... it will definittely throw me off right?? so i need monitors ASAP??

Ok, I gotta state the obvious here:

According to Atomix, the Free Home Edition does not support public performance, advanced sound configurations or controllers/timecode beyond 10 mins at a time.

Please support those who have worked so hard to create and update Virtual DJ by buying and registering your pro license here.

Now to your original question, instead of using your speakers and looking to buy subs, buy a VDJ Pro license then I would suggest you call around to other local DJ companies. If possible, look for someone with multiple sound systems. They will have tried and tested gear, and if they are reputable, then they will have backups as well. Explain that you would like to rent one of their systems for a school dance. Then hook your gear to their PA.
The DJ company gets a little money without having to pay a DJ.
They get to see you in action which COULD lead to a job.

Working for someone else before going it alone is like getting paid to go to school.

...or, you could try going it alone and roll the dice that you will be able to pull it off. Ruin your reputation, and you will spend YEARS trying to fix it. Play it smart, and 5-10 years from now, when all those kids are looking for a DJ for their weddings, they will remember how professional you looked and sounded.

@djnutz--- i will as soon as i get enough money. i been trying to get a decent set up as a mobile dj so i can spend money on software. i figured i better learn the basic skills without sofware, but now i think i could take the next step and move onto software- VDJ that is. =]
and thnx for the advice ill try to rent some subs and do my best at homecoming =]

Thans to all!!
