For the money the Mixdeck is the shit!! But you might wanna wait for the Mixdeck Quad to come out. Shouldn't be much longer now.

+1 for the Numark Mixtrack Pro, very nice controller at a great price. Works like a champ with VDJ7.

I got a icon idj a couple of weeks ago LOL it has tonnes of controls to give your pimp hand a workout when your not pimpin, and all in the size a little bigger than two iphones, plus I'm in the process of mapping and creating a skin for it to go with the mapping, before I thought it was a cheap toy, but it's actually 1/2 decent quality on the things that can get away with 13/16 decent quality on the essentials and 1/4 the size of most small controllers. It's 69/69 pimpin

So i've been lookin around at different ones, and i've put together

So how exactly would this work, i would hook the USB upto my computer after installing the software, and connect everything i need to and away i go?

Would my speakers need to be plugged into my PC or into the controller?

Speakers would need to plugged into the Hercules. Nice choice, you'll be happy with it.

So looking into some speakers is probably a good idea too, it will be a hassle to keep plugging and unplugging my speakers.

Excellent choice!!! As stated above you will be happy with it.

mate, you dot need to plug and unplug your speakers, connect to your hifi with phono cable, just plug into your aux/phono input.

or if you have a dvd surround sound system, you can also plug into that. itll get you started till you reis the capital for a proper amp and speakers

If only... :)

shane, theres some rmx, controllers about now for around £250, or theres one i spotted last night for £299 if you save some more that includes monitor speakers, headphones and mic too. as well as leads.

heres the links

you could also pick up a new, hercules 4set or vestax typhoon for around £200.

im not sure on the audio interfaces on the typhoon or the 4set but im sure someone else can elaborate on that.

personally i would go with saving another £50 and grab the RMX that way you have a controller with a built in soundcard ready for use with timecodes.

also the rmx comes with VDJ 5 pro, which you can register and upgrade to pro 7. thus giving you a top controller and a pro licence for only and extra £50, with the option to expand readilly available.

The RMX comes with VDJ 5 LE (RMX Edition) not PRO. Just so you are not misinformed.

thanks for that, it did cross my mind that i could be wrong. glad you cleared that up...do we have a list somewhere of which controllers come with which software?

Edit: never mind, in the products section of the forums it lists most controllers as having LE, so i take it "all" controllers apckaged with vdj only give LE.

The upgrade from DJ Console Edition v5 for RMX to the full Pro is $149 not $50.

A considerable discount though considering the full Pro software normally costs $299.

Controllers that come with VirtualDJ included all come with either VirtualDJ LE or VirtualDJ Console Edition. These can all be upgraded to the full Pro at a discount. The amount depends on the product (More expensive = More discount.) To see the upgrade price, go to http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html and enter the VirtualDJ LE or Console Edition serial number in the box provided.

under the assumption that RMX came with a pro version that could be upgraded for free, then the RMX being "£50" more than his £200 budget meant that for £250 he could buy the RMX which i thought came with a pro liscence to give him the controller and the assumed pro licence.

i knew the upgrade to pro wasnt £50.

Have a backup plan. With laptops and controllers, especially those with built in interfaces, what happens when the lappy crashes? My advice is to use an external mixer. Run the interface through one channel and an ipod, cd player, or similar device on the other. Then if the computer goes down, you can avoid dead air. I actually have a pre-recorded mix that is an hour long, giving me time to possibly troubleshoot and fix any computer issues while still playing music.

bloody good idea mr nutz...although a backup laptop is also good to have. i like the idea of having a premixed set just incase and an ipod is a great idea, i guess its possible to use any smart phone also.

Noo-bee in the house for the first time guys.....Vinyl/cd dj since 2000, so no stranger to spinnin', however takin' aserious look at midi controllers now.
I found a vestax vci-100 on ebay for $200 and think it would be a great tool to make some gigs easier for travel and function. I read on the vestax site that the unit doesnt support Itunes downloads though. I have quite a few tracks I've purchased from itunes....should i just bite the bullet and transform those trax into standard mp3's and pick up the vci-100?
