Support Staff - first I want to say thank u for all the hlep u provide...I'm not understanding why I still have like this 1 to 2 second delay in my scratch response using the CDJ-850's as a controller for VDJ...u guys say it should not have an effect on the responsiveness but it does...I looked at the link u posted for an answer but it really didn't help me unless it's just me...I'm new to this and understanding how all of this works should work is just getting frustrating, especially understanding this latency term and how can I determine if my pc is optimised for low latency audio....I just need this choppy response to get fixed and the CDJ's to be accurate on the scratch response like a cd and the usb

If there is a delay in your scratch response then it means that your sound card is not setup correctly.
Make sure that you are using ASIO drivers and you have adjusted the buffer size/latency via CONFIG -> Sound Setup -> ASIO Config as low as your computer can handle (See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html for info about optimising your computer)

I'm so confused I don't know if I'm coming or going....reading one thing u guys say increase the latency and reading another thing u guys say decrease the latency...if my delayed scratch response is due to the sound cards not being hooked up properly and not the latency setting, please tell me how should my sound card setting be set under config....I have a Realtek sound card not a ASIO sound card...my settings are, Input: None, Outputs: External Mixer (deck 1 chan 1@2, deck 2 chan3@4), Soundcard: ASIO Driver..the drop down beside it I have selected: PIONEER CDJ ASIO and the Ultra-latecnyASIO box I do not have checked

The Pioneer CDJ-850 has a built-in ASIO sound card which you should be using (And according to the settings you posted above you are using.)
Increasing the latency means slower/laggy scratch response but less chance of sound break-up if your computer isn't optimised or fast enough to cope.
Decreasing the latency means faster and better scratch response. The lower you can go, the better, but the lowest value you can select will depend on your computer's performance. See the above guide to ensure that your computer is optimised for lo latency audio. Set it as low as you can without getting sound break-up.
You can adjust the latency (Buffer size) from the Pioneer ASIO control panel (CONFIG -> Sound Setup -> ASIO Config.) You will normally need to restart the software between each change for it to take effect.

Thanks for the info, I kinda understand this latency thing a little better now...but can u give me some advise on this, the laptop I have now seems like Im in a lose, lose situation (low latency better scratch response but sound breakup....high latency poor scratch response but no sound breakup) .....Im going to purchase a new laptop, can u reccommend any certain requirements for me to run VDJ Pro 7 at a low latency for a better scratch response without any sound breakup or sound shutting off

Please see the topic http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html - This lists all the common causes of latency problems and their solutions. In particular, see the part about using DPC latency checker at the bottom.
Your computer will need to EXCEED the recommended specifications at the bottom of the page http://www.virtualdj.com/products/virtualdj/index.html - Low latency audio is very demanding on the CPU.
You will need a dual core (Or better) Intel CPU faster than 2Ghz, 4Gb RAM and clean OEM install of Windows 7 Professional (I.e: None of the bloatware and other unnecessary applications that usually come pre-installed on most off-the-shelf shop purchased computers aimed at typical home/office users) and a legitimate purchased licensed version of the full VirtualDJ Professional: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html
If you need to purchase replace your computer with a new one, please open a new topic on this subject for advice/suggestions from existing users (They may not necessarily view this topic because its subject is about problems with CDJ-850.)

Can u tell me what exactly are these "timecodes"? I went to the VDJ site, downloaded the codes and burned them to a cd, now how do I get the timecodes to work with my Pioneer CDJ-850's and VDJ with the correct setup so I won't have that off-time or choppy looking display? I see where others are using serato and traktor but I have neither, so how does these timecodes and VDJ work together?
