did you conect the CDJ 850 with MIDI/HID or with Timecode CDs?

MIDI/HID, no timecodes

Is there any update on this issue?

Mine work fine, hmmm I am running them in MIDI/HID
Granted I havent played with them for more than 30 minutes using VDJ but I would have expected something to happen in 30 minutes. How often does it happen?

just hooked up the 850s updated the firmware to 1.0.4 and am running vdj7.0.4 and I have got to say that the HID mapping is not the best at all. Would be nice if someone from automix could look at this please.

Time display not smooth.

spinner LCD not smooth.

No cue point on spinner.

The small ring on the spinner shows up when holding the jog in vinyl mode but not when paused.

Has anyone else got this issue as well?

First -- not every CD VISUAL element of the unit is available in PC (HID) mode.

Time display - what is not 'smooth' about it? Its a bunch of numbers running in series. Don't know how you can smooth that out.

Spinner LCD - It's because VirtualDJ only sends in Minutes / Seconds / Milliseconds -- the unit requires Minutes / Seconds / Frames to make it smooth. This is all CDJs and is on the list of added features for next MAJOR release.

No Cue point on the Spinner - not available in HID mode.

Small ring - change the mapping for the LED Jog Touch so it is on when paused.

So, you don't like the visual appeal -- so what is 'functionally' wrong with it ?

Thanks Cstoll for the fast reply,

"First -- not every CD VISUAL element of the unit is available in PC (HID) mode."

Thank you did not know that.

"Time display - what is not 'smooth' about it? Its a bunch of numbers running in series. Don't know how you can smooth that out."

ms look like they jump a bit (or could just be my bad eye's lol)

"Spinner LCD - It's because VirtualDJ only sends in Minutes / Seconds / Milliseconds -- the unit requires Minutes / Seconds / Frames to make it smooth. This is all CDJs and is on the list of added features for next MAJOR release."

Thank you again, this is really nice to know.

"No Cue point on the Spinner - not available in HID mode."

Sorry again I did not know this

"Small ring - change the mapping for the LED Jog Touch so it is on when paused."

I will do, just thought it would have already been done.

"So, you don't like the visual appeal -- so what is 'functionally' wrong with it ?"

Just visual appeal really (god I sound shallow lol) functionally it is spot on. One thing though are we able to map the buttons across the top of the display?

Thanks again,

Ian

Nope - falls into that first category. Would coded something to it, if they were available.

I think the mapper works great! I could care less about the visual issues, they don't bother me at all...I really don't consider them an issue. All I care about is the actual functionality of the CDJs with VDJ and I think they work great with it. I was surprise to find out that I could control 2 decks with 1 CDJ using the tab key or whatever key it is...I forgot the key lol

The one complain I would have (If I was a scratch DJ) is the latency when releasing the jog, there's a slight delay between the time you release the jog and when the song starts playing again. It would be cool to have the start stop speed function on the platter but I figured it must not be available in PC mode.

Well got to say I am loving the CDJ850's with VDJ now after having them for a few days to get used to. They work spot-on.

Hey all,

It's great to find Virtual DJ has provided HID control for the CDJ 850's, but I wanted to pick up on the previous comment about problems with the centre spinner LED and elapsed time display.

I get the fact VDJ only sends out time-code to the nearest millisecond, but on my setup the centre LEDs on both CDJ 850s are randomly jumping 1/8 even 1/4 of a turn sometimes, which is distracting and a bit annoying.

The elapsed time display does appear to randomly jump several numbers at time as mentioed earlier.

It's as if the the communication between my PC and VDJ is being randomly interrupted so causing delays in CDJ LED display updates rather than a resolution of time-code issue?? If its being interupted, sending in frames would not resolve the issue??

Is this something that can be fixed by me, i.e configuration settings somewhere, or is it down to VDJ. If not fixable, is it possible to turn the spinner LED off in the mapping?

Thanks in advance.

(I am running a Dual core windows 7 PC 2.2Ghz and 4M RAM)

I think the reason for this is because VDJ sends in Milliseconds but the Pioneers use Frames, so that would mean they are slightly out when talking to each other (miss-match probe better way of putting it). It is the same as why the spinner is not smooth. If you look on the display of all Pioneers they say M S F, I never noticed before I always thought they used MS.

I am hoping this will be addressed with the release of VDJ 8, as Chris said it is something they are working on for all Pioneer CDJs in the next MAJOR update (I hope 8), they still work sweet as though and the team has done a great job with mapping them as always.

Thanks Ian, makes sense now, so look forward to version 8 coming out. I hope it won't be too long!

I just noticed the CUE button continues playing if held for more than approx 5 secs.... Is that normal?

Just thought I'd mention it.

Cheers :)

I have the CDJ-850's working with VDJ Pro 7 but I'm still having a problem it spinning kinda choppy on the CDJ display around the vinyl....it spins fine in dics and usb mode...I know it has something to do with the latency but I have tried everything I know and it still spins choppy...
My setup is this... INPUT: None, OUTPUTS: External Mixer (Deck 1 Chan 1&2...Deck 2 Chan 3&4), SOUNDCARD: ASIO Driver....I have Pioneer CDJ ASIO selected and Ultra-latency ASIO is selected......can someone please help me get this problem fixed, please!!!!!!!!!!

Also register your software so you will be able to get the latest updates.

I agree on that they work well.....but as a DJ I like to be on point when Im doing a set, with this choppyness it's aggravating because it's not on point....do you know of any other DJ software besides VDJ that works well with the CDJ-850's that I can try

The display is just a visual limitation due to the different time units used in VirtualDJ. It has no effect on the performance or responsiveness of the CDJ-850's as a controller for VirtualDJ. Future versions of the software may support more fluid display.

If you don't get a good scratch response, check your ASIO settings and ensure they are set as low as your computer can handle. To ensure that your computer is optimised for low latency audio, please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

You could also use the CDJ-850 via timecode CD - This would give you the display working exactly as it does for CD's, but you will only be able to control song playback.
