I am working in a new Gentleman's Club, and will discuss that later. Last night, we are celebrating the birthday party for one of the top dancers. We have 20 of the hottest Russian dancers there. One of them ask if she could bring in a CD, and I say I can't play Cd's. Now, I can rip a CD, but do not want it known. Trust me, it would never stop. I tell her to write down the request, and I may be able to buy it, but no promises. Got to netsearch, type in A. Pugacheva and BAM, a page full of options pop up. I load the track into cache, and mix it into "Porn Star Dancing", and all hell breaks lose. Every dancer in the club is on stage, dancing and singing. When it's finished, they rush the DJ booth. Let's just say I have been elevated to the Czar of pucking Russia, comrade number one. Did I mention that I hate being mauled by hot, half naked, long legged Russian girls? That is not the best part (yeah I know, you have filthy minds). I never discuss the monetary compensation I receive, in public forums, you never know who may be reading. Let's just say my subscription has been paid to this membership, for a very long time. But wait, there's more. I got another track, that was a video. Pow, this is too good to be true. These tracks are now ready to be played as long as I am on line, which is always, because my phone is a modem. I have used this service many times before, but to find a Russian artist blows me away. I also have a subscription to Rhapsody, but Grooveshark is ported right to VDJ. I may need to rethink the Rhapsody thing.
Update: Just went to Rhapsody, and although they have Alla Pugacheva, they do not have the song they wanted.

Thanks AMAHM, like I said before, you're the God father of DJ's! So once I start doing gigs again come June (out with a back injury), I will be using this service for sure now! That is one of the best endorsements I've ever read about any music service of any kind!

Check this out. They forgot to ask me to work tonight. They call me at 7:15. I jump in the shower, and am at the club now. I have not said anything about the club, because I do not want to jinx any opportunities I may have. I kicked the owner out of my DJ booth years ago. He has managed many clubs before, but this is his first ownership. I am the new kid on the block here. I will take some pictures, and post them. Let me just say I am very happy. The booth was designed by a DJ, and has everything, including broadband.

Crashter, how can I take pictures, when my hands are full? Plus, I don't want any evidence. Let me crunch some numbers here. If you buy 5 tracks at $2.00 each, that's $10.00. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can spend that in less than a minute at Beatport or any one of the many sites I buy from. Did I mention that I also have music & video subscriptions to; Promoonly, Top Hits, TM Century, Smashvidz, 8th Wonder, Virtualremixes. I also buy from Strictly Hits, Defected, and Yourremix. This is a never ending habit we have, and we must feed the beast. WE HAVE TO BUY NEW MUSIC AND VIDEOS, ALL THE TIME. NO VACATIONS, NO BREAKS. However, the reality is, some of these tracks have a shelf life of a week. Now, I take that $10.00 a month, and have access to those tracks, and a gazillion others, when ever I need them. I don't care that I don't own it. If I really want it that bad, I can record a mix, but do I need to? It's $10.00 people. See ow much you get at Yourremix for $10.00.

I don't have a great story with hot strippers stuffing cash in my pants, but I do have many many stories of having every requested song that has been thrown at me and the smiles of the customers when I play it for them (if I want too). Best $10.00 I can spend in a month hands down!

A quick question for all you premium users...
I've been thinking about using the service myself, having had a little play with netsearch in the past. The only criticism I have though is that while a netsearched track is loading (which may take a couple of minutes if your connection isn't great!) it seems to hinder the loading of any music tracks on your hard drive. For example, a track may be streaming onto deck 1, but if you load one of your own tracks onto deck 2, the load time ALSO takes forever, until the netsearched track has finished loading. Is this just a limitation of the way it works, or am I being thick and doing something wrong?

This may be a limitation and/or bug, but you can avoid it by caching songs to your hard disk first before playing them. This also means that if your connection gets interrupted or slows down, the song will not run out on you. Cached songs are also available when you are off-line.
You can cache a song by right-clicking on it and choosing this option.

Fair enough then... :-)
Well, I've put my money where my mouth is now, time to have a proper play!

Wow, guys. This sounds too good to be true, so to speak. But the proof is in the pudding. People obviously like the premium service and it yields invaluable benefits, based on the feedback being posted.
With that said, I think of the reasons why I am not jumping into the thick of things (Premium) is because I don't work full-time as a deejay, not even close (I'm mostly "bedroom"). I would hate to go to a gig/club and be burdened with always having to establish an Internet connection (not to mention wireless 'Net service can be iffy). So if I have the Grooveshark service but no Internet connection, you can figure out the rest.
But the opening story as posted by our colleague regarding the Russian patrons and the galore after the deejay beautifully put the song in the spool and subsequently played it with great timing, made me think that I should get this service.
Do these cached tracks, e.g., sound as good as let's say a 320kbps downloaded mp3 from another service (e.g., Traxsource or Beatport) that I permanently own?? I am always working hard to have nothing but really, really good sound files on my hard drive.

You get many results when you type in a title and artist, and sometimes you have to weed out ones that are poor quality, the right version etc... I always pre listen to a track to make sure it is ok and the quality is good and if it is a song I think i will play on a regular basis i will cashe it. So to answer your question, Yes sound quality is spot on and just as good as 320 kbps with the premium membership.

Yes, you have to listen to a track, or it may say what quality it is. The audio tracks have a little blue arrow that says it is approved by Grooveshark. At least I think that's what it means. After that Russian party, I have become addicted. I don't wait till I am at a party. I go to one of my favorite sites, listen to some of the new house or club stuff and BAM, get it from Netsearch. Download it to cache, and have instant access at the gig. This is saving me a few dollars a week. As I said, some of these tracks will only be played once, and others have a shelf life of a month. I will not mention my monthly bill for music and videos, except to say it is a lot. The truth of the matter is, the more I save, the more I spend.

Wow. It's an amazing value to say the least. In theory it appears to be a no-brain' er. If the sound quality of the Grooveshark & Premium service MP3's are at least in the range of between 192kbps & 320kbps, than I am sold on that service. (I prefer a consistent 320 bitrate, but I make exceptions for lower bitrate if the songs are good/well recorded, for a lack of better words.)
TWO QUESTIONS:
1) Can I incorporate the Premium service/cached songs into recorded mixed sets (I use the Record feature in VDJ, MP3 format)?
and
2) Can the cached songs be solely located on an external (USB) hard drive?
(Currently that's how I maintain my core archive of music. I would not be able to store the cached songs onto the internal hard drive as it would not facilitate my specific disc storage needs. With the external drive option I can hook up the drive to my studio computer at home as well as my laptop for on the road.)

"I am working in a new "Gentleman's Club"....
AMAHMISTER:
The difference between a "Gentleman's Club" and a strip club?
(No cover charge compared to $20 Dollar Cover Charge)
