Hi everyone,
I'm still reading about VDJ 7
and I'm still a little scared to download and install VDJ 7...
Here is what I have read and just like to get your inputs:
--- VDJ 7 can be loaded and install and you can still continue to use VDJ 6 for gig without any problems.
(Now true is this. Some have said that you better backup your VDJ 6 before installing VDJ 7)
I want to open my Xmas present (VDJ 7)
Please help me get over it and install my new toy...
Thanks

Why dont you just backup your Database and download VDJ7. And when you download it just RENAME it. Its that simple. I find it hard to believe you havent did this yet??? Really its been how long and you havent even downloaded it yet, come on...................

Huey,
I installed VDJ7 on my new computer and am having a heck of a time getting everything going. VDJ 6 works just fine on my old laptop so I have no choice but to run w/ VDJ6 for now. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't upgrade on my old laptop because I would've been S.O.L...for real.
I've posted my issues on a couple other boards here and received no kind of help. You were the ONLY one who responded. I can't believe that with so many opinions flying around here that no one has a solution to my problem (or even an explanation). I love this product (VD6) and I wish I could get going with 7, but I'm not getting any kind of help here. Do people with Serato have these type of issues when they upgrade? Not trying to make a smart remark, I'm serious, I would really like to know if it's just me, or the software. Hey, if it's "operator error, that's fine with me, I just want to know how to fix it...I have gigs to play. I have commitments and people that rely on me as much as I rely on this software. If I can't get my issue resolved, I suppose I'll have to try another software until I find one that's as reliable as I am to my clients...got work to do!
Laterz,
Ivan

Hahaa! That's funny you mention Serato, we throw shows once a month and my partner is a Serato fanboy. Anyways we use it cause most of the djs that come in use it. Well the last 3 shows on 3 different laptops its just shut off......No warning nothing just shut off. Just go read there forums........Im sorry you haven't had the best off luck but I can say that thanks to people like DJ IN NORWAY, SBDJ, TAYLA and many others that what ever problem I've ever had hell even down to what type of equipment I use they've always come through. My system is nothing special, its just an Asus 2.2 ghz with 4 gigs of ram , Nivida video card with a gig of ram running Windows Vista (which everybody says not to). The only tweak I have ever done is my soundcard latency to the highest setting. I can run videos all night and with every update it just keeps getting better. I will try to help anyway I can but im not that tech Zach. Most of the time I can point you in the right direction. But I still say just download it backup your database then just rename it.
Enjoy
Huey
Enjoy

Thanks BeatBreaker1,
I just don't want my system to stop working for any reason...
I have a few more evens where I want to make very sure I have no problems in them...
A lot of times it isn't the software but our softbrains that cause the problems... hahaha
Let me ask you this then:
Is this a new install or an upgrade...???
Meaning; new install would let me still play VDJ 6 as if VDJ 7 wasn't there...
Upgrade would overwrite my VDJ 6 and all I would have left is VDJ 7...
Thanks for your commemts and help...

Wrong...
It is an upgrade...
I no longer have VDJ 6 icon or one that will start VDJ 6 and not VDJ 7
I had it create VirtualDJ7 and not overwrite my existing VirtualDJ...
Still all I have is VDJ 7 now...
It is using the same skins I had fixed for VDJ 6...
So for what I can see right now it is an upgrade and NOT a new version install.
More in a few minutes...
Or
As they say in CA
"I'll be back"

Hmmm..................didnt I say be sure to "RENAME" it................

CadDog,
Sorry I didn't read this earlier. My install eliminated my version 6 too. Luckily I have a duplicate machine to experiment on. Even then I felt a little panic. I must say that it is working well. This weekend I will bang on it with my MIDI mixer and see if I can break it.
All I know is that if they are going to have it eliminate the old version, it should at least import the old settings. Since they didn't reinvent the wheel (just made it shinier) almost all of the data files were able to be copied over from my other computer. The only thing I'm trying to figure out is how to get all of my BPMs, cue points, etc to show up. It will take me years to re-do all of that. I'm hoping someone else posted a solution.

I have only been using and playing VDJ for about month or so now. I notice that the cue points I did add under VDJ 6 are still there. I also see all the BPM's all all my files...
Run all my files to get BPM would of taken me 2 days so I very happy I don't need to do that...
I started looking for a 1024 x 784 for my 15" laptop. I would like to be able to cue up a set knowing a lot of time I change my mind at the last minute anyway... hahaha
I really hope you can restore your BMP and cue points...
Like I said, I had VDJ 7 create a new directory thinking it would install an hold those app or exe...
I don't hold anyone could play both 6 and 7 on the same computer...
mmmm, ???? Could I reinstall VDJ 6 if I needed too...???

The Best of Both Worlds
I found that I have them both... Ya baby...
When it starts to install the exe ask you if you want to install under ...\virtualDJ
and if like me you would like to keep both make sure to enter another directory.
I created a VirtualDJ 7 and it install like this:
...\VirtualDJ 7\virtualDJ\...
I didn't lose any of my cue point which I created under VDJ 6 or any of BPM's...
I don't know if this is because I had it install under a secound directory or what...
So far so great...
I say GREAT because I found a few other items which
I didn't know about and never even thought I needed until now...
Thanks for you help and I hope to soon be able to download a skin for my laptop which fits...

Thanks BeatBreaker1,
I have already started to enjoy it...
Taging my music is nicer now with VDJ 7...
And like you, I haven't had any problems yet...
Other than the started icon being red,
I haven't notice any difference in VDJ controls.
My keys are still doing what I took them to do with VDJ 6 and
the only thing what would be nicer would be a skin for my laptop size using 4 channels...
For now, I'm very happy and all is going good and I'm still finding more new stuff all the time...
Xmas is finally here for DJ's...
