Im pretty sure you have to rescan for tags when you change them outside of VDJ. Well OK I'm not 100% but I think thats how it works. Anybody else care to chime in..............

This needs to be fixed so that ALL tags get updated without having to keep track of every file that get's changed over time.
A Batch Tag "Update ALL" for the Drive or root directory including sub directories is needed instead of just some selected tracks is required IMHO..
Hopefully soon.....:)

All you need to do is hit * in the search bar to display all tracks, ctrl+a to select all then right click, batch, update tags then that's it.

Do you actually have any songs in your database?, * will display all songs in the DB
This is the same in V6 and V7

i tried the * and reload tags,,,but there has to be an easier or more automatic way to do this than going in each folder and updating or waiting however long it takes to reload the entire music folder..

Think about it... If you have an extensive music collection, would you want to wait while VDJ starts up, reads the DB in to memory, then scan all the files for the slight chance that a tag has changed, update the database then re-write the database back to disk before you can start using the software?
Think of the ratio to which tags change compared to you just using the software. Plus this re-inforces my view, and which has been shared by others in many threads, which is that your database should be ready BEFORE you get to a gig.
When ever I add new music to my external hard drive, I will fire up VDJ, scan for new music and then analyse the new tracks before I leave the house which could be days before a gig. Also as it's my music on my hard drive, I know if I have changed any tags therefore I can target the browsers and re-read the tags from the changed music.
In fact I have a number of filter folders that help me identify new music, unscanned music etc. To help speed up this process.
Preparation, preparation, preparation... ;-)

I fully agree Roy.
How many people don't have a clue what's in their music collection, how many tracks they'll never play, duplicates etc?
I have been DJing for 26 years and my DB has 4200 songs in it. No crap, no duplicates and every one is tagged properly and in the Virtual DJ database.
The database works perfectly well if you take time to look after it. Having seen how a lot of other laptop DJs work I must be in the minority!
VDJ has so many ways of managing your music properly with filter folders, monitored folders etc. Taking time to get familiar with how VDJ works will help in the long run.

That all makes sense..but that isnt my problem..i dont make changes before a gig. i made a change in my genre's to my liking and its not being read by vdj. the only way it is updating is by the * and reload tags. i am having to manually go into the folders and reload tags. I started this on sunday. i didnt post till monday or tuesday when i wasnt making headway.
that is exactly my point in which you just helped me make..ITS not reloading them automaticly after scans..
i have every clue of what i have and what i dont listen to or play. again this is the reason why im posting that its not taking my change.

The reason VDJ keeps the database as a XML file is for speed and accuracy. MP3 tags can get corrupted and the XML database can be fixed quite easily if something goes wrong. It also supports cue points and other info that can't be kept in the MP3 tag.
Say you have 10,000 tracks, how does VDJ know what you have changed in random ID3 tags without scanning all the files like I have described above? It imports the tag info first time the track is added to the database, any changes afterwards have to be manually scanned for.
If you are running V7, you can edit the genre per file in VDJ then export it to the tag. That way they are both updated at the same time.

when you say manually- do you mean go into the changed folder and scan reload? if so thats what im saying or maybe im not saying it correctly..manual vs automatic
i will explain..
i have a folder called nusome in that folder i have different music types and each of those music types now have a specific genre so for example
Nusome
70's
Country
Hip Hop
Hip Hop Streets
Hip Hop Down South
so now that i have made changes to the tags in the folder or in the tag editor they are updated in the folders and reflect properly where should..i then go into vdj and click on the overall nusome folder and click to add to db, to make changes refelct- NOTHING..i then go into the specific folder and do same thing NOTHIN..so what you are saying is i have to do the method you stated and GO into each indvidual Sub Folder open them up and then reload .....thats what i call manual..when i say automatic i expect it to these steps when i click on the overall folder or the sub folder and rescan it should update and THAT is whats not happening.
thanks JP..

So just checking... Which of these methods are you using:
Highlight files -> Right-Click -> Scan For BPM's
Highlight files -> Right-Click -> Scan For BPM's -> Search DB -> Add to search DB
Highlight files -> Right-Click -> Batch -> Reload Tag
Cheers,
Roy

I just don't get this .....
If I hit * in the search bar it displays all files in the DB
Select all then right click, batch, update tags as usual to update tags.
This works for me on all my files in the DB. I don't have to select folders individually ......
