I've been in the DJ biz since 1981, when I was 12 and spinning on SL1200 MK2's as a House & Freestyle DJ in Chicago & N.W. Indiana. I made the leap to Scratch-Live in 2006 and a little later (2014) put aside my turntables for a DDJ-SR to start learning controllers. I purchased a Rane Four in 2023 and saw that VDJ had advanced to a point where I could set aside Serato in favor of VirtualDJ (and its better Stems and control). At 56, I still do the occasional club/bar gig in a 'Open-Format' but focus more on weddings, local festivals and private parties. Over the years, I also learned the craft of sound engineering and computerized lighting. I will continue to do the biz until I no longer can carry the gear, LoL.
