how are viruses in limewire transmitted? do they come with a normal song, with a song that does not play or with the thing you download that ends up to b nothing?.........well anyway i have some songs in limewire that i COULD ONLY get there.......the computer that i use limewire in has a virus ......im going to buy a laptop and want to move a couple of songs from my desktop to the laptop, but will the viruses go with those songs onto my laptop? from a friend i heard that if you move ur songs from one computer to another using a mp3 ,flash drive you eliminate the possibility of getting viruses onto the computer were you are moving the songs to.... is that true?

"how are viruses in limewire transmitted"

The best bet is stop stealing music and start a sentence with a capital letter.

true that, theres soo many download sites that you pay for, i know it costs money but at the end of the day i see it as giving my support to that artist because i really like his tunes, and if he didnt get paid because everyone was nickin his tunes, he wouldnt be bothered to write more, then no one would!! and it would be pretty boring!! end of the day most tunes are 1.50 anyway so whats 1.50?? just save up DJ'in is expensive!

I've never used Limewire - but that and similar ones rely on files in users' hard drives - how the viruses get there is a mystery.

Last year, two of my nieces - fraternal twins - celebrated their joint 18th birthday - Caroline downloaded some files (presumably from a combination of Limewire, similar sites and the artistes' sites) and put them into my laptop via a memory stick - without virus-checking them first.

Some files were only about a minute of the song (presumably those from the artistes' sites) - those that were the full versions gave me problems in Virtual DJ, causing it to stick and drag.

Ultimately, my computer wouldn't switch off properly - Hibernate meant hang, Standby meant hang and Shut Down meant restart - the only option that worked properly was Restart.

It subsequently crashed completely.

I got somebody to repair it for me - it was found to have about seven viruses on it - presumably those downloads.

As for downloading movies and telly shows from the likes of Limewire, you can get one of many problems - well, for people in countries whose language is English:

The dialogue is in a foreign language (the user's first language is not English);

The dialogue is in English - but has subtitles in a foreign tongue - my niece Cheryl (the other twin) downloaded some episodes of Stargate SG-1 - the episodes were in English dialogue (albeit American accents) - but Chinese subtitles;

The quality is poor - recorded straight off the telly.

i think this is an interesting dilemna ........

i'll probably surprise a few with this but .....don't be in such a hurry to cast the first stone ........

i notice he said he couldn't find it anywhere else ......... he got a virus by acquiring it via Limewire ? so that's his just punishment ??

that's a little too old testament fer Chuck .....

this is a common place event people ..... almost everything is available without limit or rules or cost , on the various p2p networks .....

so if a music publisher hasn't made an old item available for legal download ..... then what ???

he tried to pay for it !

only the old farts like me who bought the vinyl way back when get to have it ?? young people who want a cool obscurity that didn't make it onto a "best of " are just left out and told it's the right thing ????

to talk about the viruses a moment ......

for several reasons i'm fairly sure that the virus downloads simultaneous to the music file .......

if you use a good antivirus program , the virus will be detected , you will be alerted , and you can take effective action and not be infected,

one common route to infect a computer is with portable media .... cd's , thumb/stick drives , etc ....

portable drives are not protection ........

good antivirus ..... Trend Micro , Avast , Zone Alarm , Kaspersky , not necessarily in that order......

in a side note for Renee ....... i hardly ever capitalize because that draws the eye , to whatever is capitalized , as though it were important , and i believe i do not decide what is important ..... also i trail off my comments because a comma puts an end to it , and i don't believe that everything is so open and shut .........

the first thing to do when downloading songs off a p2p network is minimizing the category to download Audio files.. instead of just going straight to download a file from the general download area.
next is to check the tags of the file and number of users. and what the file name looks like..

the wheels on the bus go round and round...
same arguement, different day. legal music is great if you can afford it and i am all for supporting artists (but not the industry!) and i do feel piracy is an issue that needs resolving, but good luck getting china to agree to that.
but how does a young, talented, broke because he just shelled out money for VDJ, a computer, an external drive, an external controller, a sound system, and lights, dj start playing anywhere without a library? by recording songs off the radio? good luck holding that crowd with freebies downloaded from artists that none of the customers have ever heard of. good luck pleasing customers when you tell them you don't have that song, or that song, or that song either.
borrowing a friends music collection is iffy at best - who knows where they got it from, and do you have enough time to listen to the whole thing to make sure there are no skips, no corrupted files, that its the actual artist singing the song and not a really bad remake?

you can't be a dj unless you already have money? i got lucky - i went from radio to a club where they buy everything - lights to music - and all i have to do is walk in and play. if i don't have any one particular song i can have it in minutes or the next night if i want - they just run up to the office with a credit card and download then bring on a flash drive. but i really feel bad for all the others who just cant get the cash together to even start! who knows how many truly great dj's are out there if they can't even get started 'cause they can't afford it?

good luck finding the perfect solution, because i don't think there is one.

I have a perfect solution. If you can't afford it, than tough shit. Here is a news flash for you. BEING A DJ IS NOT A NECCESSITY, YOU WILL NOT DIE IF YOU CAN'T BE A DJ. Maybe he's not supposed to be a DJ. I want to be a plumber, but can't afford the tools. What do you suggest, that it is OK for me to break into a plumbers truck, and steal his tools? Is it OK if I steal your music? Why not, it's only OK to steal from others? What a crock of shit, with all these excuses. If you feel sorry for these lazy muthapuckers, give them your gold card. I have a suggestion. If you have a passion for something, how about working hard for it? This may come as a shock to the "I have to have it now" crowd. This is the only profession wher I hear people advocating stealing. How do you thing most of us became DJs? Well I can tell you we did not break into record stores and steal our music. If he can't find a song legaly, then he's not looking hard enough, or he's not supposed to have it. You guys sound like those jerkoffs they catch in those bait cars. Just because the keys are in it, does not give you the right to take it. What a bunch of crying, stealing, lazy, spoiled, entitled, mamby pamby, mommas boys.

Chuck, I am surprised at you, because you are old enough to know better. Yes, I believe they should catch crabs, the black plague, and anything else you can find in the old and new testament.

it was only one record store, and i felt very ashamed...

Just not enough to return them though!!!

i don't use Limewire ....... just making a good point about old music that never made it onto cd .........i get most of my music from Amazon , which has a lousy selection and also has many "album only" tracks proving that many in the industry still don't get it ......

also i get lots of tracks from strippers and dj's ..... how legal is that ?? i didn't pay for it ? it was shared , just not to the whole world

well, no, not at the time. and if the owners hadn't been arrested and sent to prison for their "side business" i would have possibly tried to make restitution.

I was joking! We both know that thats not true. You would be a saint if you did that. We all were young dumb and some point but with technology the way it is. We sometimes get dumber and never learn the values it takes to make it in the real world.

Kids showing up with jeans and a shirt untucked looking for a job. Can't right worth a damn but can txt while driving. We email the guy next to us instead of talking to him. Sorry, a little off topic...

Being a DJ now is alot cheaper from back in my times. When i started dj ying in the 80s.. The vinyl costed 399 and you had to buy so many weekly to keep up. To get Music these days, you could either pay or get for free ... Thats how life is... What can you do....

Wow i cant believe this man over there is getting all dramatic about this piracy thing...man just let it go alot of things are done in this world that we are not suppose to do but we do it anyway..there somethings that are never ganna change iknow most of yall have done something illegally..they do what they do..let them..i think people should worry about them selves..like we got some people trying to get other pro users key cd..that pisses me off...but if he gets yeah im ganna get mad..but shit happens..

Getting pissed at new jack DJ's pirating music is worrying about #1. Some person gets a hair up their ass that they wanna be a DJ. They can drop $1000 on equipment, download music for free, then undercut a legit DJ because they don't have the investment that a legit DJ has. After the time, commitment, and investment in running a LEGAL business, I don't see why some cat with an extra $1000, internet connection, and a need for extra beer money gets a pass for breaking the law. I'm sure some advocate for pirating music will say if I'm better than the illegal DJ, I'll still get the job. Whatever. How many of us have rocked a club, a party for families, or any other event to be told they found someone else cheaper for the next event? This form of stealing does effect us because no matter how much we want to believe our skills matter, sometimes, all potential clients care about is the bottom line. I can't compete with a thief that doesn't have any expenses. This is me worrying about myself.

Sometimes, it takes the small minded longer to see the big picture.

i never said it was right. just was sayin' i could understand why.

and now back on topic

limewire and viruses go hand in hand - play at your own risk and don't expect sympathy when your comp is down for the count.
