Topic: Browsing options

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I'm having a very hard time understanding the new browsing options offered in VDJ 5.2 Pro

(Please note that I jumped from 4.1r2 to 5.2, so please bear with me...)

I'm trying to disable VDJ from reading the ID3 tags from my songs, since at least half of them are incomplete, erroneous and/or empty.

With a database of 16,000+ files, I have no intention of updating the ID3 tags in my files, unless there is a way to automate this procedure.

So, what I want to do is go back to the good old browsing options of 4.1r2, which worked perfectly fine for me. For instance, I really thought the file search that used the entire path name of a file (e.g. directories and all) was excellent.

To show you what I'm trying to achieve, here's an example of what 4.1r2 allowed me to do in file search:

Search for: ACDC

This would result in showing the list of all files which have "ACDC" in either the file name and/or anywhere in the directory name.

So, for a file named: C:\Rock\ACDC\Thunderstruck.mp3, then "Thunderstruck.mp3" would appear in the list of search results.

Alas, this is no longer the case, unless the ID3 tag is perfectly up to date, or the file name itself contains the word ACDC.

How can I configure the browser in 5.2 Pro to obtain the same search capabalities as 4.1r2?

Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thank you all

In config, browser, disable the first 3 items in infos gathering.

Ok, this I have already done a long time ago, but now the database seems to be stuck with the previous scanning of ID3 tags. Should I have the database deleted and/or rescanned?

Also, even with these 3 options disabled, I still can't get the search results by directory name, as this was the case in 4.1r2

Not sure I understand you. What is this directory you are searching for, and why?

Allow me to better explain what I want:

Let's suppose I have the following directory structure:

C:\mp3\rock\acdc\

And in this directory, there are 3 songs:

thunderstruck.mp3
back in black.mp3
ACDC - tnt.mp3

Now, let's say I'm in VDJ and I want to search for any songs from ACDC.

So, I type "acdc" in the search box.

In version 4.1r2, the search results would show as follows:

TITLE......................ARTIST
thunderstruck
back in black
tnt...........................ACDC

(e.g. it would pick up ANYTHING that has the word ACDC in either the directory name, or the file name)

However, now in version 5.2, this is what I would get:

TITLE......................ARTIST
tnt..........................ACDC

(e.g. it doesn't pick up the files which have ACDC only in the directory name and not the file name, which is kind of a bummer...)

Hope this helps you to better understand,

Internodal.i know what you mean.. the database doesnt pick up all the songs .. sometimes i will have to leave words out of a song name to find it (wierd) but then i still havent had time t rescan file for bpm yet since my hard drive crashed .
have you scanned your database for bpm ?maybe it will help

DJ T Boogie,

I have scanned SOME of the BPM's amongst the files on my hard drive. The songs I have scanned for BPM's are mostly Dance, House, Euro, Hip-Hop, Reggaetones and the likes.

Unfortunately, if I do a seach for songs that DO have their BPM's analyzed, I get the same results as with the example in the above post.

wow ;weird ..I think it was tayla who had ghost songs before also (hidden /missing songs)

do you know if they are all mp3/mp4 etc ?might narrow it down a bit .

My songs are 99.99% mp3 files. Only got a few samples in .wav format...

The bottom line is, the browser doesn't work like it used to.

And, please believe me when I say I tried a crap-load of different settings to obtain the results I'm looking for.

For now, I can work around this issue by using the good old Windows XP file searcher (You know, that cute little puppy...), which shows folders AND files that match the search criteria.

It's just too bad the VDJ search functions are different now. I really thought the file searching in 4.1r2 was top-notch...

Wow!! I'm not going crazy.... I have the same or similar problem when searching for some songs.

Example: One song that comes to mind - KEROSENE BY MIRANDA LAMBERT - when I type KEROSENE the karaoke song doesn't come up in the search but when I type MIRANDA or LAMBERT it does. It's happened to a lot of songs but I have tried to to find why but never figured it out. I have been told how to fix the problem in the forum but nothing ever worked so I have been just dealing with it... I thought maybe the song title was spelled wrong but thats not the case either. The 3 options are also off in settings.

Ok, I found it !!!

Wow! It took 2 guys and 30 minutes of fumbling around in the software, to find what we were looking for.

The option is available in one of those little "target" thingies you find next to the search box (The white round shape with a white dot in the middle)

We couldn't find it at first, because the "tool tip" doesn't show a description of what those little "targets" do.

So, in order to search for a song using the file name and/or the PATH name, you just click on the target that is closest to the right side of the search box. There, you can set your search criteria to look for Title (ID3), Artist (ID3), FILE NAME, FILE PATH, and so on...

The other target (the one that is farthest to the right) allows to toggle the display of Karaoke, Video and Audio files.

Man, that was intense -- and yet so darn simple!!

men i know this is suck i have the same problem the last week becouse i was working with the vercion 4.3 so when i update to 5.1.2 the search thing dosen't work when you tried to find you music, but i have the solution open virtuald dj right click with you mouse on the folder were you have the music ,a pop up come up then select (add to search db)same times this obccion don't work right so here is another obccion open you folder then select the first song press shift key+down when you finish of select all song right click again on the pop up list select file infos there you have another pop up list, selec the second obccion (title from filename) so tried to see if you find a song..

PD;the browsing dosen't work because this is only for ID3 tags ,for me is better filename because if you have un son like, DJ Tiesto - Ayla , when you search for this artist or name of song there is what you looking for ,so trust ,because i was on the same problem ,but now is like the vercion 4.3

bye have fun J.C D.C
