get one that has a minimum speed of 7200, i use maxtor/seagate which have been decent, both brands of the same manufacture and come with a 5 year guarante nowadays.

I usually make sure to get shock resistant HDDs for a lot of pretty obvious reasons. I've had a lot of HDDs give up after small drops, but at least my Western Digital Shock Resistant drives seem to have reasonable shock resistance.

I second Seagate, most hard drive makers only offer a 1 year warranty, while Seagate offers 5 years at least here in the US.

Western Digital, Seagate/maxtor are my 3 favorite makes.

I brought A 500gig Maxtor about 3 weeks ago and got a 3 year manufactures warranty with it, not bad really.

If you are going for a big drive, then it must have a speed off 7200rpm and have it's own power supply.

None, I don't use them just upgrade your HD regardless as to if it's a lappy or not 320GB in mine.

Got a 320gb in my Mac!! :O)
