Topic: A Few Preliminary Gear Reviews

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

So last night I ran some initial, basic testing on the pieces of new gear I have (still awaiting a few things) & this is what I think so far.

American DJ LS70 LED Lighting Package: The cans on this thing are very cheaply made, the light socket won't stay straight as to the weight of the bulb so the bulb might move back & forth a bit while transporting. Other than that though I really like it, the sound activation is pretty sensative, the bulbs are bright, and best of all it's all LED so it only uses up about 10 watts, stays cool to the touch & should last many years provided the bulbs don't shatter.

Shure sm58 mic: I have nothing bad to say about this beast of a mic, it's an industry standard & sounds fantastic. Almost sounds as good as my condensor. Seems very well built too but I still refuse to use it as a hammer..lol.

JBL JRX115: Unfortunatly I had to try these babies out on my 80 watt Kustom amp because my QSC GX5 hasn't arrived yet, but the sound is fantastic. A big draw back though is that they are really flippin' heavy, so heavy I'm gonna need help getting them on the stands & might throw my back out trying to raise the stands (until I can afford crank up stands).

Numark cdn 25g: Nothing fancy here except for playing karaoke cd's which is why I chose it & so far it seems to do that pretty well. No key changing though & search mode only has that frame stuttering thing (which I find annoying).

Chartbusters Essential 450 Vol. 8: Pretty good collection of Karaoke here & a wide variety of it, we had a ball with it & there were songs for everyone. The included songbook sucks, it doesn't list the disc # or the track # for the songs but not a big deal as I've already started making my Karaoke catalog using open office calc. (spread sheet).

Still waiting on a few things, but in general these were some pretty good upgrades. Now if I can just burn some muscle to mount those heavy ass speakers..lol;^]

Time to start a vigorous workout routine Timmy... lol

lol.. I think so, I should've made room in the budget for a gym membership;^]

Gym /shym

Just move that gear around a few more times, and use your legs to lift.

hehe, that's serioulsy what I'm hoping Marcel, that the more I lift them the better in shape I'll get. Right now my idea of a workout is lifting the spoon up & down from the ice cream box..lol;^]

But just think, soon you'll be up to a gallon & will be on your way to helping me lift the speakers..lol

I almost forgot to mention about the lights a couple of things. One is the included foot control chaser has master/ slave modes so several of these units can operate in perfect sync with eachother, and it also has the option for one channel DMX control if I ever decide to step up to DMX;^]

Hi mate I am currently using a set of fourJRX115s and four JRX118s.

And you think you might have back problems!

Let me know when you have done your workouts so you can give ME a hand.

Have to agree the JRX115's sound great but are a little limited in bass response hence the 118S bass units. They produce a massive amount of bass for there size.

What a sound when its all together and runnin of a pair of QSC PLX2 2500 amps.

WE WILL! BRING THE HOUSE DOWN.

JBL?______LOVE EM!!!!!!

DAZ

hehe, I got my GX5 today too, making my case almost as heavy..lol. Unfortunatly won't be able to test it all together till next thursday.

I have managed to shop so far though about $175 under budget, and I know we over budgeted on a few other things. So I'm gonna order a pair of those On Stage crank up stands, I've at least got a dolly to get it points a to b. I'd like to be able to add a couple of those subs, might have to save back for 'em;^]
