Hey everyone,
Got some issues with connecting my two Pioneer CDJ-400's with VirtualDJ..
I'm connecting the CDJ-400's to my computer via the USB-to-PC ports on the backside of the decks, i've installed the latest software on the decks (v1.300) and i've installed the software update to the computer found @ pioneers website aswell.. When I plugin the decks to the computer you hear the well-known "Plug-n-play-sound", meaning Windows XP found the new hardware. But when i start VirtualDJ and go to the config-screen to setup VDJ to use the two cdplayers as timecoded inputs, my headphones as the outputs and ASIO as the soundcard (right?), and press timecode and Autoconfig, VirtualDJ says something like "Error in ASIO driver" and/or "ASIO error: Too few channels".
What I'm trying to do is use the decks as ordinary CD-players, playing songs from the internal playlist in VirtualDJ, streamed to the headphones or external amplifyer.. Doing this by connecting the USB-cable from the decks to the computer, and computer by 3.5mm-cable to headphones.
Using Windows XP Home Edition with VirtualDJ Pro och 2x Pioneer CDJ-400 (v1.300) and a Toshiba-laptop.

Well first your explanation of your hook-up is all backwards ...
1. Please register your software if you are using the PRO version.
2. With the CDJ-400 you don't use timecodes as they are MIDI controllers so Inputs are NONE in the VirtualDJ Soundcard setup.
3. The built in sound cards can be used as the primary soundcards for VirtualDJ and since you have 2 - you would need to config VirtualDJ's sound setup for 2 cards - which means you should be going to an external mixer. Now, if you don't want to use the CDJ-400s as your audio output and use your laptop's internal soundcard... then the settings are based on your computer's configuration.
So, how would you like to set things up ?

1. Sorry, aint using the Pro-version.. Mistype.
2. I've got a Pioneer DJM-400 mixer connected to the CDJ400's which I didn't think I was going to use so.. But can I use that one with VDJ aswell? How do I setup the virtualdj to use each deck as a separate sound card then? And how do I to setup the cdjs as the audio outputs? some settings on the decks or in the software on my computer (in Windows or VirtualDJ?) hmm, I'm confused..

So wait, have I got this right then;
Can the sound go through the USB-cables into the two decks in PC-mode, and then from the decks to an external mixer (Pioneer DJM-400) and out to an external amplifyer or speakers? I should still be able to use the internal mixer in VirtualDJ, since the only thing that's diffrent from not using the external mixer is that the sound is already modified by any effects in the internal mixer when going out from the laptop, right?

Ok, so here's whats happened; I've managed to setup VirtualDJ to function with my two CDJ-400s and the DJM-400 mixer, to some extent.. I only got the basic functions working..
Well, the CDJs are doing -nothing- but just sitting there and let the music stream through themselves to the mixer.. I've got no functionality regarding song names in the displays, FF, RW, Play/Pause, looping, effects (jog), pitch or song select. The LED-displays are black except for some red and white outlining.
And for the DJM-400, it only lets me control the volume on the two channels, master volume, headphone volume and channel and treble, base and mid-range.. No effects or anything..
Also, I need to raise the gain-level on the right deck in VirtualDJ to about 75% compared to the 50% on the left deck, otherwise I can't hear whats being played through that channel.. (as if the right deck got fed with too little power or something..)
What I want is for VirtualDJ to work as a playlist of sorts, that can be manually controlled by the two physical decks and mixed together with the mixer. If I can use the internal mixer in VirtualDJ ASWELL that would just be a big plus, as there is some effects there that can't be found on the DJM-400.. Doable or not?
Big thanks anyways for all the help!
