Topic: Novation Nio wont output both channels

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey i recently purchased a Novation Nio and i am trying to get it to work with virtual DJ 5.0 but i cant get it to output both Master and PFL (Cue)?

My current set up is:
Inputs: None
Outputs: Headphones (Headphones and speaker picture)
Sound card(s): ASIO Driver --> Novation USB ASIO Driver --> master: chan1&2/Headphones: Chan3&4

Yet only outputs master????

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ok, so your headphones are plugged into Headphone Jack 2 and the channel 3&4 controls - the switch is on MON and you have turned up the knob to give it some volume ?

Yeah tried that but it still just outputs master.

i think i figured out what the problem is but i still dont know how to fix it.

i think its because the nio is 2 in 4 out which explains why it is only outputting mater OR PFL.

does anyone know how to change it so that the output is: master chan1 and Headphone chan2?

Nah mate i haven't which I'm a little annoyed at but now i'm just running 2 sound cards or sometimes just the nio.

But still if anyone knows please let me know.

Also i do not think it is possible because unlike similar DJ programs you can only choose to output 1 AND 2 OR 3 AND 4.

So personally i believe it should be something that atomix should look at when they bring up a new version.

did you ever make it work? i'm thinking of buying novation nio to dj with... and then buying the
pro version, if it works on it...

would like to know if it works first though --- could someone please tell me if someone is running
it n it's working 100% fine?

thanks..

Hey guys I just got the Novation Nio 2|4 as well. I'm having the same problem as the OP.

Except in my case, I am trying to have VDJ playing out from output 1/2 and output 3/4 and hooking it up to an external 2-channel mixer. But it appears that VDJ does not have the option to seperate the 2 decks into different output sources.

However, I do have it working with my external mixer by having the config in VDJ as such:

Inputs: None
Outputs: External Mixer
Sound card(s): Mono Seperated

Sound Card: Line Out (nio 2|4)

Output channels: Left deck: Left chan / Right deck : Right chan

The reason I set it to Mono Seperated is cause this is the only option that seperates the sound from deck 1 from deck 2.

And with that, I just use 1 RCA cable from the Nio output 1/2 and split the connection to the left & right for my 2-channel mixer (left for line 1, right for line 2).

Yea... not exactly how I intended for it to work. Anybody know a fix to this?

hey if virtual dj is mono seperating shouldnt you be able to use the nio properly because it is 2 mono in and then 2 stereo out.
so output a will be left deck and channel b will be right deck (or the other way around)
i hope this helps and ill check it out when i get my gear back

Well that's what I was hoping for...

But that's the problem. Because VDJ is using a mono out, you're getting 2 sounds coming out of 1 output. And if you choose the mono output option in VDJ, the only options you get is to send deck 1 to left speakers and deck 2 to right speakers & vice versa.

Ideally, I want to be using the 4.1 sound card setting that recognizes 2 output sources. Where in this setting, VDJ would seperate deck 1 to front speakers and deck 2 to rear speakers. But Nio wasn't built to act like a 4.1 sound card with 1 jack as the front speakers and the 2nd jack as rear speakers.

I went back to the shop I bought the Nio from and had a long discussion about mapping the hardwares and VDJ together. Seems like they were just as puzzled as I was and they agreed that it's the software VDJ that is not compatible with Nio yet.
