Greetings y'all,
Just did a little bit of shopping on the TrackItDown.net website. In my shopping cart was, amongst other things, a great mp3 from Sunfreakz - Counting Down The Days (Axwell Vocal Mix)
I had just clicked the "CHECKOUT" button when, suddenly, that song had been removed from the cart with the following error message:
"We do not have a license to sell this item to your home country"
Of course, being from Canada, I'm used to cope with a lot of restrictions in terms of importing tangible goods. But an mp3 file? What gives?
So, I thought, OK... Maybe it's just TrackItDown.net which has such a restriction. So I tried to purchase the same song from 7digital.com and WHAMO!!! Here's the message I got:
"This item is only available to residents of the UK"
I thought this was kind of weird, since the song in question plays abundantly on the radio. It's even available on a recent compilation from MC Mario, one of the most famous DJ's in Canada.
Now, for those of you who will say "Dude, why don't you just buy the compilation and be done with it?" Well, here's the thing. As you all know, a compilation of mixed music is of no use to a DJ who needs the FULL LENGTH version.
I try as much as possible to buy music rather than download it for "free". However, as a last resort, I went to the dark side and tried to find this particular version of "Counting Down The Days" on P2P sharing services, and it was nowhere to be found either. This is the first time I can't get my hands on a song I really want and it's starting to tick me off. Has anyone ever experience this sort of thing? What is this restiction about?
Internodal.
