Can the Mackie d.2 pro 2-Channel DJ Production Console w/ FireWire control VDJ's internal mixer ?
Can i mix and scratch video with vdj and this mixer?

Are there any 2 channel mixers with a scratch cross-fader that works with vdj to mix and scratch videos??
(without scratch jog-wheels, they are nasty, i only use timecoded vinyl)

Please help, i wanna get into mixing and scratching video, but it seeams like there are only 4channel mixers with scratch fader and midi.
(And they are really expensive!!!!)

The Mackie D2 Pro has no MIDI support I'm afraid, so cannot control VirtualDJ.

Scott

Thanks you for the reply.
Since it has firewire connection and it can control tracktor i thougth there was someway it could control vdj... :(

It doesn't control Traktor or any other program... the firewire connection if for a built in soundcard setup -- and YES it would work with VirtualDJ

cstoll Do you mean this mixer can actually control VDJ's internal mixer so i can scratch on videos ??

"It doesn't control Traktor or any other program..." means no, it does not.
It has no MIDI, so it cannot control anything except manipulate the analog
audio only signals that get in the mixer.

To manipulate mp3s/videos on your computer without the need of mouse,
you need a MIDI controler, or timecode CDs/Vinyls.

the crossfader on the D2 PRO is midi....it sends it midi by the firewire
if you don't belive me go and read GIZMO REVIEW at Skratchworx

Which could only be useful for fader start. Not much of MIDI controler with one fader.

IF it allows control of the fader in VDJ.. then it can be used..
despite what everyone else says.. that is what i assume u need the most right?

controlling the fader for video mixing is key... anything else in terms of auiod
can be done from from the mixer itself

Does appear to have a MIDI crossfader, you're right. I had a quick hunt around prior to that and most of the reviews I read simply said no MIDI supprt - and Mackie didn't mention it in the overview feature list either...

This means coupled with a MIDI controller or a TC solution, you can use it to mix videos...

I stand corrected ;)

I still can't understand why a mixer with Firewire that does have MIDI only has crossfader control.

Simplicity is about the only legitimate reason I can think of?

Ok, ok, let me set this straight. I bought the D.2pro a month ago. I have it setup on my home desktop and it runs VV as an interface and midi controller. However, the midi is only in the xfader (not like we really need it anywhere else). I play using vinyl no CD's, and using VV tcv I still get a 100% signal. When you install the Mackie mixer you set it up in VV using it's ASIO driver and have the option to used TC or not. For some strange reason, I'm not sure why. But it doesn't always work on my laptop I use in performance. It does work all the time on my desktop (I'm also thinking that may be a firewire issue with my laptop. Anyway, if no one believes it I do have screen shots. You can bet your hind quarters that once this mixer is set for my laptop it's all I'll be using. 1 Tech12, 1 Mackie D.2, and 1 Laptop. It's nice shortening your cable list to a single firewire.

We'd all already agreed it does crossfader MIDI, but extra MIDI controls are always good to have. My Ecler has loads, and I have them set up to control video functionality which is an absolute godsend :)
