I was wanting to test the video functions of the software and my computer is using a Nvidia 8800 GTS and has VGA and HDMI outputs. I want to use the VGA output to connect to the TV using component video. I found an adapter that was VGA to component video but it said this:
NOTE: Your display system must support component video (Y, Pr, Pb) signal output function in order for the image to display properly. Please consult with your VGA card's user manual for more information.
Basically I want to know would this adapter allow me to plug my Nvidia card up to a TV?:

That NVIDIA card has (2) DVI outputs - not a VGA out.

You need these:

(You may be able to find a better price, I'm just showing you what will work, I'm not recommending this particular company)

Oh OK. I have that card as a PCI Xpress card, and it has 2 DVI's. Must be different on Laptops.

Yes, either of these will work, provided you have component inputs on you TV. I'm curious, this card does not have an s-video jack, or a hybrid combo jack?

Ok the then.... you want VGA to Component (RCA) (Or S-Video if you choose)

djrenee, not sure if that will work, as it's a composite and s-video adapter. It will work if he uses those connections, but not component connections. Also not sure if there is audio coming out of that VGA jack.

It seems odd for a TV to have component and not either VGA, DVI or HDMI. Are you 100% sure that you need component connections and not composite connections? A composite cable should always work with a component able TV although the resolution will be a lot lower. Component supports HD, composite only SD.
If your TV does have component connections the cable you posted should work, otherwise djrenees one should be OK too.

Hey it's hurting my head at this point, I have three screens and I use S-video with all three.
The quality is good enough for me.

I use s-video also, and it looks great on the 16 screens I have.

You're right. It's only 15, because the the 16th is only a 13 inch monitor in the booth.

Well heck, I didn't count my 12 inch black and white with "Rabbit Ears" ..... make that 4 screens!

I use S-video OUT from my Edirol V4 mixer. But it definately is sharper going from VGA or DVI straight out of a computer.

At the Strip club we use S-video out to a RCA adapter to a VCR/DVD player that goes to a switcher, etc to 2 projectors, and 8 LCD screens.
For best resluts it's best to try and use what the installed system has built in.

I went through this a bit on my laptop, I also have the 8800 GTS in my desktop and its dual DVI. Anyhow, that converter for $5, if its anything like the pile of other ones that i've tried, its probably not going to work.
I did get one of these to work pretty well:
http://www.radioshack.com/sm-buy-the-gigaware-pc-to-tv-converter-on-http-wwwradioshackcom--pi-2756876_tb-features.html
You can buy it at Radio Shack, if it doesnt work you can take it back. The problem you're going to have with the Ebay stuff is the lag time shipping and you could go through $40 or $50 just trying different things out and a month later you still dont have a working result. This converter does also have the RGB outputs similar to those shown on that adaptor pictured on ebay.
However it wont work with my desktop when i use an DVI to VGA adapter then plug the converter into the adaptor. *shrug* I really only needed it for the laptop, it works so I'm not gonna bich too much about it.
