Topic: Unable to use live

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I've owned Cue for a couple of months now but I'm unable to use it live to show videos as it seems totally unstable. I've used it to play audio but dare not use it to play videos.

I use a PC to gig, with the following spec .... Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.8GHz, 2.00GB Ram, dual boot Vista & XP (I mostly use Vista) but have tried both. The video card is an NVIDIA 7.15.11.6732.

The problems are

1. When I load Cue I get a warning .... Error in the sound driver of DirectX

2. I also get a warning .... The skin you are trying to use has a higher resolution than your screen. Regardless of the skin to be loaded.

3. The big one ... That when I try to plug in my camera to upload photos I would take at a gig the programme goes absolutely haywire, flashing, freezing, showing 'loading...' in the video cue screen and eventually grinds to a halt and I have to close Cue. This is not a one off event but happens every single time. The internet is not connected. The CPU is running between 10 and 20% when playing a video, when I plug the camera in it shoots up into the 90's.

Now I appreciate the problem is not with Cue, I think my PC is 'man' enough, so, please where is the problem?

I must say here, I am not computer savvy.

1. You get this error when VirtualDJ, in your case Cue has noticed a change in the Sound Setup of Config, from the last time you opened it up. I see it when I go from using my TCV one night, to using just my mk2 on another night.

2. This is due to the above, again I get this every now and then. Just hit OK when the higher resolution error comes up, it might load the skin up in that resolution, if it does just hit Esc and it should go back to the right resolution. Thats all I do to get it back to normal.

Hope this helps you, I don't now anything about question 3 mate, sorry

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah the first two points are quite minor issues but I posted them in case somebody in the know could see a connection. :o)

Cheers

3. try minimising your skin from full screen but not enough to hide it when you load camera, i notice this when loading or deleting stuff in vista, just minimise your screen a bit and everything goes honky dory for me, worth a try, if i'm wrong some one will pop along and help out...

@ Tayla, thanks it was slightly better. I could plug the camera in and Cue didn't go mental but when I activated the slideshow everything went really slow. Then when I opened task manager the slideshow crashed and it went white on my 2nd screen. Plus now the slide show won't work at all. I have dual screen working and video is enabled in config. And something even more worrying, is it disabled the video output.

Any thoughts please?

On the skin, llike Tayla said, run it in non full screen.
This is stretching the skin and will make the program unstable in the process.

Better to find a skin you like and set the display settings in control panel/display to match that skin resolution.

You might do better to save the uploaded pics to your desk top and point the slide show to that location rather than read them directly from the camera as a storage device.
Just do this through my computer, save to, and in the program under slide show, select "open" and point the browser to the desktop location.
There is also a speed setting with the plug in to regulate the slide show.

I may have gone someway to resolving the problems, at an outlay of £73. £73 is the cost of a new video card including fitting at PC World. It's a Radeon 3650. I rang the Numark help desk in the UK and they said I needed a video card with at least 512 Ram. The NVidia one that came with the PC was only 256mb memory and apparently used memory from the PC (well something like that), this one is 512mb.

There still seems to a problem when I open up the task manager, it cuts off the slideshow and disables the video, seems strange to me, is it? I KNOW ........ Don't open the T M when I'm running cue! :o)

It now needs to pushed to the max, find out what skin I need and give it a good session. I'm typing this and at the same time Cue is running with Eric Prydz video and Call on me, difficult to concentrate on the keyboard! It wouldn't have been able to do that with the old vid card.

So I'll keep you updated and thanks for your help alll. :o)

I save files on a flash card from the camera then I can just plug and unplug the card since CUE/VDJ thinks its another drive.

Still no joy, there's no way I can use this live. When I go to reduce the screen size, my second moniter goes black, flashes half a dozen times and shows my desktop over about 10 to 15 seconds! So now I can't even think about loading photos. I've got a well spec'd computer, a new video card, I can't see there is anything else I can do. I don't want to go back to Ots but I don't see I have an option, in all the years I've run Ots I've never experienced anything like this.

Could it be I have to troll through all the skins to find one that works with my computer? At the moment I'm using the basic ones supplied with Cue. Oh yeah I've updated to 5.1 thinking that may help but it hasn't.

When you say change the screen size do you mean the skin, the max/min or the resolution in windows?

You should save the pictures to a folder on your desktop and point the slide show to that location by selecting "open" which opens a browser.
Do not run them from the camera.
Just minimize the program and go to my computer, find the camera open the folder select all copy and save to that folder on your desktop.

Let's say I'm running a standard issue skin. I'm using the 'button' in the top right hand corner of the screen, where you have minimize, half screen and close screen. I hit the middle one (half screen) and it all goes wrong, my second moniter immediatley goes to my desktop screen, then flashes between that and the video playing then goes off completely, freezes and sometimes the video reappears. This is without trying to connect the camera, this is following the advice from Tayla, to reduce the size of the screen.

Why would you want to minimize/maximize your screen when you're playing live? Even with the most stable program I have ever used, it is not recommended. You're funeral.

WHY? Because of the above, that's why. I have minimized screens on another programme and never ever had even the slightest glitch or missed beat.

I just did a small test on the video playing and switching screens. Keep in mind that I didn't have it hooked to a full screen to test. I did notice that it doesn't like shrinking and enlarging during video playback. Tonight I will test on having it hooked to a full screen.

EDITED:

If I use a standard res then I can do whatever I want but I soon as I go to enlarge full res / wide screen, it flickers on changing sizes. I think alot of it has to do with the screen has to recalibrate for the change in font size.

Thanks for that, I wait :o)

If somebody would like to have a go at remote access (or whatever it's called), then please be my guest. I'm not sure thinking about it, that that could be done, as it's the second screen that becomes the problem.

Well it seems nobody can find a solution, so .............. Can I sell Cue, because as it stands it's completely useless.

I see that you have not contacted the Numark helpline if you are based in the UK you can contact me directly.
