Hi - I'm trying out VDJ and I want to purchase a DJ controller. I've been looking at several:
Behringer BCD2000/3000
Hercules Mk1/Mk2 (either VDJ, Traktor or Mac Ed.)
Numark Total Control, NuVJ, etc.
M-Audio X-Session Pro
denon dn hd-2500 audio usb midi interface dj controller
Are there others I need to look at?
Here's my two laptops.
I have a Lenovo C3000 N200 - 1.6G Duo core2 /1 GB-RAM and a Dell Latitude 530 - 2Gh Dual core 2/@GB RAM
My needs.
I need to be able to DJ with VDJ as my main source. I mix audio and video files depending ( I have a flat screen the audience can see.) I don't scratch (but that may change with the right controller) but I do want to be able to access the controls on VDJ, playlist, fading, FX select, cuing, etc. I don't want to have to worry about freeze ups if at all possible. Also, I am thinking about adding karaoke, but that's optional.
What are you ppls' recommendations based on ease of use, features, and stability?

Additional question:
Will the Mk2 Mac Ed. work on a PC?

The software will not work on a pc , you would need to purchase the PC version.
some suggestions

It depends on your style of mixing which controller you should get.
Are you a Mobile or Club DJ or is it a hobby at this time ?

Really, i dont think for a controller it matters whether u want to club dj or mobile. I suggest the Hercules MK2, if u can get rmx, i would suggest that too, but more expensive. Ive made some pretty nice mashups with it, it has the jog wheels, nice shortcuts for effects, loops, etc. At my work we have one setup as a ASIO sound card/ mixer and we have Timecoded vinyls plugged into it, which is very cool feature for it

I am in this same situation and am trying to find a controller. With the RMX do you need an external mixer or can you do everything through that? What does it have that other options may not have? And have you ever had any trouble with it? (freezes, hardware fail ect)

I started out with the hercules controller then went to a gigaport soundcard with a dac2 controller.(pcdj) I have both VDJPRO and PCDJ but prefer VDJ.I send the signal out to a small mackie mixer(6 channel with effects). I have a HP laptop for song search and video monitor. I am a singer/dj/karaoke host. I do tribute shows of Elvis,Tom Jones and also beat mix. This versatility keeps me busy. I am now looking to advanced to a smaller setup. I have found that being a professinal singer before I was a DJ,I prefer the pro mixers sound over the typical dj mixer.A singers voice sounds so much better. The benifit of having a external mixer besides just the ONE mic output from the controller is that you have a backup sytem in case that one mic input fails. You have to make an emergency announcement and you have no mic.You can also have a mp3 player ready to go in another chanell in case of the laptop or controller freezing. You can still play songs and make anouncements while you are troubleshooting the controller.(No dead air) I am looking for a controller that has a built in soundcard, keyboard search, built in hard drive ,two mic inputs(XLR) with effects and rack mountable. is that so hard??

Mixer:DN-X500 http://www.denondj.com/prodview_item.asp?pid=57&cid=3
It even has an effects loop that you can assign to any output
Controller: DN-HD2500 http://www.denondj.com/prodview_item.asp?pid=57&cid=3
It even plays CDs.(DN-D4500 can be controlled by the DN-HD2500)

The Numark MixTrack Pro is a great controller and you can't beat the price.

I suggest the RMX you can get it for 250$ if you match your price at a store with amazon and it will go alot further than any other

At this price range, go with the Mixtrack Pro. If you can fork out the extra 200 bucks, the new N4 is the WAY to go.
