Topic: How tight is CDJ400 and VDJ midi scratching?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is it good? Or does it leave something to be desired?

And how do you set it up...through the virtualvinyl soundcard or directly to the computer?

Directly to the computer.
The CDJ.400 does NOT need a timecode cd (that plays a signal to your soundcard), but controls the software DIRECTLY over USB/midi.

How well it scratches, well, it scratches pretty damn good, but is not a DMC tabletop, for the really really really advanced juggles...

Here's an interesting question: if I used the the CDJ 400 (or the denon SL1200 since it's a similar unit) in controller mode with the sound coming out of the unit through the ASIO driver, could I apply the pioneer sound effects to the output? I guess in theory it's possible, but not sure if they would have implemented that kind of advanced feature.

As far as I know, that will work ;) And should.. in every logic. When you use the internal soundcard on the CDJs as soundcard, effects can be applied live from the unit ... pretty sure that would be possible

Do the cdj400's have a sound card in them? Can I plug them directly into my computer and control virtual DJ natively? I am looking for something to do video with.

Yes...as long as you have the latest firmwear.

Yes, you can plug them in and control VDJ (using one of three midi mapers, two here on VDJ and one on the Pioneer site) but at this time they are not natively supported. Native support is expect soon for the CDJ 400 and some other new controllers.
