Topic: Just bought a MacBook Pro!What should I expect. - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Well I just bought a Apple Macbook pro with a 2.5ghz dual core processor and 250gig hard drive, and 2 gigs of ram. I am a brand new apple owner and I wanted to further my Dj career so I fest up and bought it brand new. I was just wondering what I should expect from this computer and how long do you guys think it will take for me to get used to mac os. Thanks

I got the same thing. i was really thinking of running boot-camp, I tried & it said it won't install because I have my hard drive partitioned. So I'm really hoping 5.1 comes through.

So boot-camp is running windows? Where can I read up on this

best bet for u is run bootcamp & vista.

Ouch...Actually dj9duce Macs are very easy to use and very stable. Now all you need to do is get software that legitimately runs on Apples OS X (operating system). Congrats on the computer I've been hearing many great things about the new MBP's.

Well I hope you didn't buy it with expectations that it was going to work better with VDJ, hence Cyder's Bootcamp comment. If so, you may be pretty disappointed and feel like you made a $3,000 mistake.

He shouldn't feel too bad, I use the mac for everything else there is only one program I don't use the mac for and that Is VDJ.

Guys please stop, you're killing me. Well at least I bought a box of Depends with me today.

Well you know...........

MAC's are more reliable than PC's .............. EVERYONE knows that.

just like EVERYONE knows that Serato is more reliable than VDJ.

Come on Rick I thought you were smarter than that

Wait, wait, wait, I can't breath. AAAAAaaaaahhhhhhhhahahahahahahahahaha, 3 gran for a Mac, so I can put pucking bbbbbbbbootcamp on it, so I can run Windows? Tell me this is some kind of cruel pucking joke. Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, ah ah, ahahahahahahahahahahaha, hold it, these Depends are not working, there is pee pee all over the booth. "Gabriella, come here honey, no don't touch it. Honey, can you get me some toilet paper? I said don't touch it. Thanks honey. By the way, have you ever heard of bbbbbbbbbbbbbootcamp"? Ahahahahahahahahaha, hahahahahahahahahaha, pee pee pee. Better make that some Wet Ones.

well it wont be long until vdj will be like serato telling all of its users that if they want their software to run without a hitch buy a MBP. Hey I have both, and also both Serato and VDJ. ANd all I will say is both have strong points and both have weaknesses. However when I do my gigs, I am using my PC with VDJ.

Now I like that, a very unbiased opinion. No jumping up and down, no bad mouthing, just the truth as you see it. That's all I want, because I am a big boy, and can make up my own mind. I have nothing against the Mac, because I have never used one. I just don't like most MAC owners, because of their attitudes. Everything has strong and weak points, but you will never hear that from MAC owners, except you.

I also have both SSL and VDJ and agree 100% with the above statement. I have leaned towards VDJ but reliabilty has been a issue. I hope to get it reliable with my mac. I will have to wait and see and if not I guess ill stick with SSL.

Same here, I use my Windows partition for VDJ and Sony Vegas. But what I was referring to is that if he bought the $3,000 Macbook Pro for use with VDJ he was going to be disappointed.

I agree, its very funny but also quite disappointing. I laugh (well maybe shake my head in disgust) everytime I hold down that Fu**ing option key to load Windows. For someone to spend $3,000 on one hell of a computer and then find out it works like crap for the main program they wanted to run is quite the let down.

That whole saga was more of an inside joke. I also have both and agree that both have their strengths and weaknesses. VDJ kills Video-SL in the realm of VOB support, video transitions, MIDI capabilities, Windows stability, ect...Video-SL kills VDJ in terms of Timecode, organization, and stability on a Mac. Depending on what kind of DJ you are should negate what program is right for you.
