Topic: New Setup Complete

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Some of you know I've been working on a new setup for Club night at a local bar where its karaoke/music video friday and beach bar saturday. The bar has 7 42 lcd monitors and one large projection tv. in a matrix configuration. So I needed something small I could carry in. So my old stand by rack system just wasn't going to cut it. I have exactly 4 feet by 3 feet to set up in. The house sound system for lack of a better word sucks, I bring in my 2 450s just so I don't look bad. Anyway This is what I came up with.

I'm really pleased with this setup the denon stuff is really top notch. And before anyone asks yes I do use both the mac version and vista. The hc4500 isn't working so well in mac right now so this setup will mostly be used under vista untill I work out the mapping for mac. The sound card in the denon is really good no weirdness to report there.

One cool thing about the x500 is the fact when you hook up a 4500 to it you can use the xfader via midi to control the video fade which comes in handy, the only problem is its inverted in the native support which could be really confusing. So I turned the xfader around for the time being, the x500 allows you to matrix the ins and out so I could still make everything line up until the native support is fixed or JP comes up with a mapper, you out there jp?

Anyway thats the new rig specs are as follows

17in Macbook pro 2.6 with 2gb of ram

Vista/osx 10.5.2

external 1tb firewire 800 drive

denon x500 mixer

denon hc4500 controller

looks good Cyder love it.

Nice setup!
What is that "thing" you connect your headpones with?

its a right angle adapter, it helps save your headphone plug from wear and tear.

Thats a good idea Cyder,

Ok, thanks..

: ( waaaaaaah! : (
I want one too!!!

Very nice. Me likey.

You can't get to the trebble, trim or mic volumes.

everything I need I can easily get I'm really not into tweeking eq's all night, only one I need is the bass for mixing. mic volume is set external on the wireless unit, gain vdj takes care of. and volume difference can be made up with the channel faders. works great for me.

Great setup. When are you gonna get a real computer?

I have no idea why head phone already have an right angled plug, it's so needed. My headphone jack would poke me in the guts all the time, some mixers have the dumbest placement for the jack too.

Clean look, small footprint - nice job ;)

Holy Crap, is that a laptop that I see?
Jason, have you gone soft?

Well I still have my other setup for the big events this system is mainly for this one bar where space is non-existent so really had no choice in the matter. Denon controller has a pretty steep learning curve, lets hope JP comes up with a mapper to make it a little better. Btw I can slide the laptop back if i need to access the whole mixer, its just sitting on an Lstand.

nice setup that

So cyder the question is is the laptop doing everything you can do as your shuttle. What I mean is are you doing videos like you nomaly do ???????????
Would you say it might be time to go to a laptop?????

the answer is no It can't do everything my rack does, for example it only has one drive my rack has 4 so it doesn't have the space, power yes its actually faster in cpu then my rack system is. Video is ok not perfect it has a 8600mgt and all the problems you read about the 8000 series are present. The other things are minor such as the denon sound card has no inputs so doing timecode with this setup would require another sound card and usb cable. Also my rack system is totally redundant meaning I could have a complete drive failure and still play in a matter of seconds. My mbp runs vista because there is a problem running xp on this specific machine mainly with the video card. Other then a few hickups I would still have to say the rack system is still far superior then this rig, but then again this rig was built for one specific purpose.

%$#@!&*^%(**)($% girlie machine.

So them if you can get a laptop to work perfect we souldn't even considerate I say that because both my pc syatems work perfect & was thinking of going to laptop.

Well i've thrown every tweak I could think of at this system and yet I still get a skip on the video when loading another track.
