I know the Herc Mk 2 does not require an external power supply. However, when I connect analog external inputs to the rear, they sound very distorted - even at low levels. Does the Herc need the external power for line 1 and 2 analog inputs (as opposed to USB sound from VDJ)?

Also, where can I get this power supply?

I can't remember is the MK2 has the voltage listed on the back but if not contact Hercules for that info. You can pick the power supply up at any electronics store, Radio Shack has tons of different power supplies.
 
The best way is to contact Hercules service support ;)
 
You can always buy a powered USB hub and plug your controller in that way so it doesn't use the computers power.
 
OK thank you all. I found a matching transformer, so I will report back once it's connected.
 
Eric, it sounds like you're using something other than TTs on the input. If so, make sure your input's phono/line switch on the MK2 is set to "line." You may be getting distortion from the phono preamp on the MK2.

9volt dc 500Ma recommended,
i use a "9volt DC 1000mA" "works perfect"
in the PDF manual it states the plug size etc
i got mine from a place called radioshack "in the USA"
 
did it work? are you able to play analog inputs with out a problem? what is the part number of the adaptor
 
brand: radishack AC Adapter
9v DC 800mA (regulated) (0.8A is the same as 800mA)

also will work:
-Uniross AC/DC Regulated 1.5 – 12V 700mA Universal mains Adaptor (UNI700RSF)
-Uniross AC/DC Regulated 3 – 12V 1000mA Universal Adaptor (AD101705)

the following specifications would be ideal:
9V DC/500mA; 2.1mm x 5.5mm plug;
center positive polarity
 
i remember this issue long ago.

there may also be a problem with static coming out of the sound card due to it not being shielded enough.

you need to get rid of the neutral power bar in the power line of the computer/speakers. it's this little plastic device that cost 79 cents.
 
Well, I used the power transformer and I still get a very distorted sound out of the Herc when using the analog inputs only. It's not an interfernce, or buzzing. Just very distorted. Maybe my Herc is bad.
 
Try a different USB cable.
 
Why would the USB cable be at fault? This is an analog issue...??
 
I am telling you I had an issue similar and found my USB cable was bad, could also be your RCA cables.

Thanks I appreciate it. I eliminated the RCA cables originally. But I will try swapping the USB cable.
 
Yeah... Weirder things have happened, but you never know.
 
This has been a problem with this every sense the driver was updated to the 2007 driver. I beleave it is in the driver
 
in looking at Hercules site I found some info on this problem http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=2&fid=28&pid=177&cid=6. They say the reason you get distortion is because to much line power is going to the mixer "The inputs of the console are made for consumer grade devices with a Line
level output (-10dBu), such as MP3 player, portable CD player, etc

Some DJ peripherals (using 2V Line level) or professional grade devices
(using +4dBV level) will overload the inputs signal and consequently create
distortion if connected to the DJ Console MK2 inputs."
