I just have a few questions regarding laptop connections. I'm trying to connect my laptop thru my mixer(using line) to have it played on channel 1 of my 3 channel mixer. Probably needless to say, it sounds terrible. Funds are low so I'm trying to find a solution to get through this set (small party about 30 ppl)i have to do today then I can go ahead and get the MK2 I'm interested in. I know I won't be able to do all of the ill mixing (going to just do an automix) but will hooking the headphone jack connected to the amp and speaker system going to hold me over? Will I run the chance of blowing anything? Some of these topics I've been reading mention the the Herc MP3 requires a soundcard. But they don't mention what kind. Will the sound card on my laptop do? How do I to see what kind of soundcard I have? Have any quick solutions to get me through this night?

Had a person wanting to hire me for a small office party (50 ppl) - she didn't want to pay my price for the full set up.
As a P.R. gesture, I asked if she had a laptop with the music she wanted played - she said yes so
I loaned her an amp a speaker and a headphone to RCA cable (couple of RCA to 1/4 connectors to the amp) and no mixer.
Hooked up the connector to the Speaker jack from the laptop for external speakers to the amp.
It wasn't the best sound but was decent enough to where she was happy and the people had a good time.
No damage to any of the equipment (you can go fairly loud, but keep an eye on your volume - speakers can't handle the same volume with this makeshift signal than with a clean preamp signal like you would get from an external sound card).
I dont use the Hurc MP3, but to get good sound you absolutely need an external Sound card (not your laptops sound card). Examples are Maya44 and Audio 8 DJ. Some equipment (e.g. mixers) already comes with a sound card.
