Topic: what is the biggest motherboard on board video card...

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

...on the market - does anyone know ?

also....I've seen a posting of a user with a 256mb on board dedicated video card who is running vdj flawlessly - my theory is that less is more, so NOT having a seperate video card may help VDJ ? any comments on this theory ?

do you mean shared? if so avoide this as it performs badly and most laptop cards are on the board any ways you can get cards with their own decicated memory of 512 or 1Gb in higher quality models.

Sky Dave is talkin about My and MArcels MOBO which is a MicroATX board with onboard video, Cyder also has this MOBO.

Sky, a) I'm working on the basis of less is more. I see lots of posts re VDJ problems and video card and audio card often are cited. Marcel is getting flawless performance with no secondary video or audio card. His mobo has a built in (think 256mb dedicated) video card. Is there any value to my theory that keeping the video card on the mobo its one less thing for the PC and VDJ to do therefore one less thing to worry about. ?

b) i'm testing a EMU 4040 that does NOT need any software on pc, its spdif in / audio out - same theory - no soundcard or driver on the pc in the less is more theory

[I can only speak from personal experience; But this setup has been completely reliable since I assembled it.

ASUS M2NPV-VM
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX13050(ME).aspx
AMD Athlon Dual Core processor
2GB DDR2 800mhz RAM
Western Digital 80GB IDE hard drive for O/S (vista home premium)
Western Digital 300GB IDE hard Drive for music/videos
Numark DMC2 controller

I've run this setup for up to 10 hours at a time doing just about every function VDJ has to offer (except for timecodes)

I swear by it not at it

It has dual video out Directly from the Mother board.5.1 audio Card (yes I use the onboard sound)

I would put it in the mid range quality wise, comparable with soundblaster and hercules MK2. Not for studio use - but then again it's not used in the studio.

It goes into a 2U rackmounted case slightly modified to fit into a SKB DJ Capsule case. (I moved the rack ears)

Pics are in my blog. - Both of the Video truss, and a shot of the Console Assy.]

Dave the greatest part of this MOBO is the fact that it is a Micro ATX meaning you can build a shuttle (like I have) or you can build a rackmount (like Cyder (Jason) has).
