Topic: How to do this...

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

A client just asked me if I could show some of her pictures, during her wedding. Of course I said yes, as I have all the equipment. What I don't have, is the knowledge and skill, to transform all of these old pictures to files, and present them, in a professional manner. So these are some questions I Have.

1. Should I take them to someone to transform them for me? If so, who?

2. If I do them myself, what do I need, and how hard is it? She does not have all the pictures together yet, so I don't know how many there will be. What kind of a time frame are we talking about?

The wedding is not until the 19th, and I am going to meet her on the 9th. Is that enough time?

Get back to me, my brothers and sisters.

You can do it pretty easy with Microsoft Powerpoint, then run the presentation directly from the PC to the projector.

Or, you can do a "photo video" with movie maker (it cames with windows) very very easy, with transactions between photos, and you can add music tracks.

Or, you can do a google search for a free or trial sotware that do photo slideshows.

Hope it helps!

If you do Directly from VDJ just tell her to bring you a Memory stick with the photograph file laid out in the sequence she wants. This is the important part...

They Msut be labeled like this:
01 picturename.GIF
02 picturename.gif/jpg/bmp
etc....

The First reason for the labeling is important is that VDJ slideshow starts on the first file of a picture folder and goes from there.
The second reason is that Windows will re-squence basic counting for some reason. if it's not labeled 01,02 etc... windows will re-sequence to 1,10,11,12, ~~~2,20,21,22, etc....

It's quite annoying

So... Have the files on a memory Stick labeled in the correct order Then stick the memory stick in an available USB port - chose your delay - 3 seconds is usually okay, Then put your music in the decks and chose the slideshow plugin , chose file # 01 and Activate the slideshow. VDJ will do the rest.

Oh yes - Press play on the songs in the deck.
If they're not using a diferent song - just play the same song in the other deck and fade it out at the end of the pictures - Cause VDJ Slideshow will auto-loop the pictures

Good luck

OK, I did not make myself clear enough, I guess. She has pictures, you know, prints. These are not files. She want to give me a bunch of prints, some are 25 years old. I will need to turn them into files. I need to know how to do this. I'm not sure if I will have music, as she just want them to run on monitors, throughout the reception. I may not even run through VDJ, as I have a laptop as a backup, so can use that.

So, How do I turn prints into files? Would it be easier to take them to someone to do it for me? If so, who? I don't care how much it cost, because I will include it in my video upgrade.

Even if I take them to someone this time, I still would like to learn how to do it myself, for the next time. I will also need someone to take my hand and walk me through the process. Well, we don't have to touch hands (you sleazy bastards), but I am not that knowledgeable about the whole computer thing. So all help is appreciated, and I will not be offended by basic info like Rick, put the CD in the tray, and press close.

you scan them
so you will need a scanner wich will be about $100
I do like the ones that power directly from usb but they are preaty slow, most of the scanners come with some sort of software
I do like Canon which comes with canon tools and Visioneer wich comes with paper port, also HP has good ones but their software is too much.
Now after you have the scanner and soft installed you have to configure it.
you will need to get a default folder where your pictures are imported usualy My Documents\MyPictures
you will need to select scan to file resolution, the higher the better but the picture files will be bigger.
you have to choose the saving file format, *.jpg is a standard for picture files.
now there are few options to do a slide show, power point is a way and other picture editing softwares are doing this, but I like to use a movie producer software like pinnacle studio and do a litle movie clip with or without music and I will burn the project on a dvd that I might give to the ppl that hired me.
I usualy charge at least $100 for this.
if you want to get fancy the whole project could take few hours or you can have it done in less then one hour.

if you need more info let me know or send them over the pond and I'll do it for you.
btw, talk to the Man to let me buy a star too. lol:)

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. Had a gig today, so am a little late getting back here. Tayla, got the pm thanks a lot. I think I am gonna try to get these photo tomorrow, and give myself some extra time to try out a few of these options. I have a Walgreen's around the corner, I have a Canon all in one, and may even have some of the software mentioned. The more things I try, the more knowledge I will acquire. This is my first Brazilian wedding, and there is a lot of buzz, because I'm playing there. Her sister hire another guy for her reception, because I was booked, and they hated him. I will know a lot of the girls there (Dancers), and there is a great deal of potential clients. Don't you guys go anywhere, because I will be back with more questions. Again, thanks for the help.

check this link out. dont bother with vdj or powerpoint. you wanna get a bunch of files, and let a program do the rest. if she wants it in an order, make her number them accordingly.

i used said program for my wedding in 05 but cant remember the software. but this review page should brief you in an instant what to get or crack.

http://photo-slideshow-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

its not really eye candy, its more like a conversation piece thats in the background and shouldnt go too fast, too slow or have too complex transitions or any effects. i remember in mine people would gravitate to the screen now and then and groups would comment on it. let them run 7-12 seconds no longer no shorter. keeps people interested. ask her to dig up all sorts of baby pics and funny pics from both sides. it's a blast i tell you....

10 seconds, does it for me.. lol

I use CD & DVD PictureShow 4 Deluxe with pictures I take at some of my events and then create a DVD for my clients for them to view. Really has sent biz my way..... Easy to do too

But you will need to scan or get on photo cd 1st...

First part done. Went to Walgreen, handed the clerk the box of photos, and asked if he could put them on a CD for me. He said "no, we don't do that, you do it on this machine." Turns out to be a scanner, I said, "I have a scanner at home, you mean that is all it is to it?" Basically, yeah, but we also give you a free program to do a photo-show. I said OK, because this way I don't have to go home and read directions on how to do this. Why reinvent the wheel, and the cost was low, $20.00 for the 45 pictures. You only can get 24 photos on a disc, as opposed to a gazillion from a memo card, so made two Cd's. Get home, run the software, and it's simple enough for me. The problem, the free software only lets me use 24 photos for the slide show, so I have to upgrade. So I get the $60.00 dollar bundle. This is not the top of the line stuff, but if I don't like it, I can get my money back. It even has music. So, everything looks good, but I have not figured out how to use the extra packs I bought. One of them allows you to put words from their mouths, or thoughts from their head. I will have to ask the client if they would even like that, but you know how my humor is. So, thanks guys for all the advice. By the way, this is turning out to be a full video package. When she dropped the photos off, she saw the videos on screen, and went nuts. She even liked the Shadow Dancers, the text, and the Sonique Visuals. Did I mention that she, her sister, cousin, and her mother used to dance here, at the same time? Let me just say all of them are HOTT. See ya.

rick

Tayla

You're hired, but not as a glass collector. I'll give you a mic and you can MC.
