after reading all the forums is it safe to say it will be a pain in the arse and very time consuming to get vdj working with this controller???

this is kind of off-topic, but i was considering purchasing this as well a few days ago but ended up going with the 3500. But it's important to note that the 5500 does not include a cd drive and if you plan on using an external hd to usb, make sure your external is formated in FAT32. It won't read NTFS.

Still, I think the 5500 is amazing and I'll probably buy it in a year.

Congrats on the S3500, however I would have gone with the HS5500 and ready the future.
The HS5500 CD drive is plug and Play and will be sold as an option (BU5501) very soon.

Yes, you can map VDJ to work with the HS5500 (except for spinning platter control, that requires native support)
But you can use VDJ time-code right now on a thumb drive for platter control.

Denon DJ,
When will this Denon cd drive (BU5501) come out and how much will it cost?
I'll be very honest with you, I presently have the 3500's and I want to upgrade to the 5500's but will not until I know how much this cd drive upgrade costs.

Do we have any hard facts yet about the CD Rom unit (BU5501) for the Denon DN-HS5500.
Will it ever come out? If so, When?
How much will it cost?
These questions are getting old.
We need answers.

Hi guys ..
So? any one have the midimap for the hs5500 i got one and is super but i like to use it with VDJ .;;) much better .hehe

I know it may be a little off topic, but If anyone is looking to buy a 5500 I am trying to sell mine. I got it about 2 months, and did not want to take it to the club without a case. I bought a brand new Marathon case, put it in and never used it. I went out and bought a pair of DVJ-1000's so that I can do video. I am selling the player in the case with all manuals, cables and Denon Music Manager software. If interested just PM me. Best thing is the case has plenty of room for when the CD drive becomes available.

Here is a pic of it.

Maybe I shouldn't be writing this now because I am extremely frusterated. I have a gig tomorrow and again, I am not able to use my DNHS5500 with VDJ. I bought two DNHS5500s over a year ago and they seem to make great paper weights when working with VDJ. In all honesty, I am not the most computer savy guy in the world and at times can be as sharp as a bowling ball but COME ON ALREADY! Why is is this so difficult. My advise, stick with the tried and true.... DNHS5500s and VDJ have been an extremely expensive failure for me. Even after numerous calls to the VDJ help line.
