Topic: Virtual Vinyl & Vista Ultimate

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi guys,

Please can anyone help me with this;

I'm using Vista Ultimate, i have installed v4 all the way up to v5 rev5 and still can't get the video effects & transitions to work, i installed Virtual Vinyl on my XP Pro (older PC) and everything worked fine.

I know people who have used Virtual Vinyl on Vista Ultimate with no problems, seems i am the only one.
I tried everything from deleting previous versions and doing clean installs, checked my codecs, version of Vista Ultimate is legitimate with all it's updates etc...

My older PC with XP Pro has much less specs( Dell Celeron 2.4Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 64Mb On-board graphic card
My current PC with Vista Ultimate ( Acer P4 3.4Ghz, 2Gb RAM, 256Mb ATI Radeon X800 Series Graphic card)

I don't know what the problem is, maybe i should re-install Vista Ultimate, does anyone have any suggestions ???

Thanks

sounds like you dont have the latest or fully supported driver for vista for your card

or you have hardware acellaration dissabled on windows graphic options and vdj video options

Hi,

Thanks for the response :-)

I downloaded the latest driver for my graphic card, and checked the hardware acceleration as well .... i also thought it might be that.
I am now starting to think i should try a clean install of Vista on a spare HDD of mine just to test if my settings are confused on my PC, i will give it a try.

Please let me know if you think of anything else, much appreciated.

:-)

Was this a preloaded computer ie. did u buy this machine and it came with Vista?? If so you may want to give a fresh install a try.

Actually this computer was pre-loaded with XP Pro, it is a single core processor, i pretty much forced Vista Ultimate onto it, i managed to get all the drivers and compatible programs for it, but i think you might be right...

Maybe Vista by default expects to have 2 processors, maybe that's why i'm having the video effect problems, the hardware acceleration might be confused because i only have 1 processor, it's the only logical explanation i can think of :-)

processors would have some effect on the loading times but not the hardware accel

but the problem i think is that the driver suplied for your card on vista isnt complete or is a beta version

and probably may get updated in the future

or it is a microsoft one size fits all driver in which hardware acellaration isnt possible + open gl

i had this on a few computers :(

Thanks for the advice skyfxl !

I think u are right, i'm using a Radeon X800 Series 256Mb Graphic Card, i updated the driver but i don't find hardware acceleration anywhere.
In response to the other guys that posted suggestions, i decided to keep my Vista Ultimate setup in tact with all it's files etc.
I put a new 250GB HDD in, and disconnected my current HDD, re-loaded XP Pro with all the drivers etc... still in the process of getting all the programs back & importing my music, videos (what we do for the love of DJ'ing)

Guess i was too greedy, trying to force Vista on my PC that wasn't made for it, at least i can always pop that older HDD in run whatever i needed, i will let you guys know how this went :-)

Hi Guys,

I installed XP Pro on another HDD i had, Virtual Vinyl and all it's effects work fine :-)

Thanks for the help !

Do you have it so you can dual boot or are you just switching back and forth between the hard drives?

I'm just switching back and forth between drives, the dual-boot is tricky ...
For now i'm Ok though, i'm still trying to figure out how to load multiple tracks on the time-coded vinyls as opposed to loading individual tracks ( for example when you want to scratch to a selection of instrumentals like a full album or sumthin ??)

I know nothin about timecode so I cant help ya there.

If you have to put Vista, I would recommend Vista Home Basic. This will install just the minimum needed to run the operating system. If you install Ultimate, then it will install all this extra crap including added processes and wasting hard drive space.

Thanks Reaper & everyone else for helping me out, i think the guy who said i had a graphics driver problem was right, it's cool.

I still have my Vista Ultimate on my old HDD, now i just run Virtual Vinyl on a new HDD on XP ....

;-P
