Topic: BEST CONTROLLER TO USE WITH VIRTUAL DJ - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I know many of us use different controllers with VirtualDJ. I'm looking to upgrade my DAC-3 and before I do I would like to get everyone's input on this. What is the best controller to use with Virtual DJ? It doesn't matter weather it's rackmount or tabletop.

There is no "best" its a matter of personal taste. I own two iCDXs, a Total Control, and Behringer BCD2K. They all have strong points and week points. Some are going to tell you to go Turn Tables and Time Code, while others still are going to say time code and CD players. So why not helps us by telling us what your intended use of VDJ is. Hip Hop, scratching? Or mobile use for weddings..or do you intend to become a bed room DJ and just mix for the enjoyment of it. All of these things factor into what is going to be recommended.

I've been using Virtual DJ for the past 2 years with my DAC-3. I just recently purchased the Korg Zero8 because of it's midi capabilities and the built-in firewire card. I'm looking to upgrade my DAC-3 with a more updated controller that will allow me to mix videos easier. I specialize in weddings and sweet 16's. I play all styles of music and music videos but I specialize in the latin genres.

Personally i'd take ICDX's or a Numark TotalControl...:)

When it comes to the Numark product, all I'm concerned about is the quality. The other thing is, I went to Guitar Center to buy a pair of ICDX's and they steared me away because most of the ones they had sold had come back with problems. They tried to sell me a Vestax VCI-100. Needless to say, I sind myself gathering all the information I can when it comes to controllers, that way I can buy the one I think suits me best. So, I need all the input I can get from everyone that's using different controllers with VirtualDJ. Keep in mind, I need one that will have some video controls.

John..I have had one of my iCDXs for a year now....not one problem. The second I purchased back in January..not one problem. I use them on mobile jobs all the time. F**king Guitar Center...only two or three times have I met anyone with a brain that works in them. Don't get me wrong the two or three were OUTSTANDING, but the rest.....well I was taught if you cant say something nice, its best not to say anything at all.

I hear you TearEmUp. I have purchased alot of Equiptment from Guitar Center and the one thing I've noticed is, they keep pushing Serato. I can understand if it was good, but VirtualDJ blows it away and I'll stop there because I was raised the same way as you, (if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all). Let me ask you a few questions about the ICDX's because before I went to Guitar Center they were my #1 choice. What are the pro's and con's, do they vibrate like people say they do when you play a regular cd & do the faders and knobs feel flimsy.

My iCDXs are in a flight case, look at my blog to see a picture, if they vibrate I do not notice. and I have no complaints about the faders. For me and my uses they have been a very good stable product, and I use them at weddings. I also use them quite a bit in my garage when I am messing around.
Negatives. occasionally a video window pops up while mixing..even if you have the video option turned off. I would like a smoother interacting from them while browsing music files. Personally that is about all of them. Hope that helps.....

You know. I sprayed the connectors in my dac3 and now love it. I had sticky button syndrome but now it works like a king.

I had to do the same with my DAC-3. I had to spray the buttons with contact spray to get them to work right. I just want to know if there's another controller out that will suit me best. From what I have seen so far, I have to say I'm really leaning towards the Vestax VCI-100. It looks very durable and the faders and knobs look very sturdy. I'm just waiting for support from VirtualDJ, which by the sound of it seem to be coming out very soon.

Just remember John, if it's not broke don't fix it.. ;) But it really depends on what you are planing to do. Staight non-scratch mixing is fine with the DAC-3 in my opinion. The others. although will cost you more money now (besides that really cool looking denon model) shouldn't add too much. If you are looking to scratch mix then yes the DAC3 might not be for you in my opinion.

John

I just bought a Denon HC4500. ITs a great piece and works awsome. The only issue is that we dont have alot of software right now for it. You can use VDJ with it but only as a midi mapper. If your dac3 inst broke i would wait untill the native comes fully available for the 4500 and then look into that option because the controller is awsome.

I've had massive problems with using CDs with the iCDxs. I had them for about four months. After a few weeks, they started getting sketchy loading CDs. Sometimes they would spit the CD back out. Sometimes they would take them in but make a grinding noise (probably not good :) ). They eventually got worse and worse until they just would not load CDs. Also by that time, one of them would randomly stop reading from the USB (mid song no less). I was wondering if anyone else has experienced problems like this. Numark just sent new iCDxs for me (after four months in repair... augh) and my store is going to let me exchange them for other players if I want. I'm thinking denon 3500s... But I liked the key control and usb of icdx. I'm trying to figure out if I just got two bad apples or if all iCDxs have plagued with problems like these. Cheers!

denon all the way

If you do video, the DMC 2 is the ticket.
Although I wish it had 16 and 32 beat loop buttons.

I just happened to be reading through the thread, I don't know anything about the dac3.

Send vantinedj a PM and ask him how he did it just in case he doesn't come back here.
