I just bought a 500 gb western digital hd but when browsing through my folders after playing for about an hour cue will freeze up on me. It did the same thing when i had all of my music on the laptop itself. I am tired of playing my music and worrying if this damn thing is going to freeze on me. I use the program by itself no cd's , ttables , or video. All i use is audio. I was thinking of buying virtual vinyl but it is the same thing as cue but with a sound card therefor it will probally be the same mess. i use a hp pavillion laptop amd turion 64 dual core prosess 1.8 bus 2 gig of ram 120 gig hd with 90 % free space ops is windows media center edition and i deleted all of the garbage off of it. What direction should i go in now cause i'm not wasting anymore money!!

If you are only doing audio and not using TT then you don't need the higher performance settings as they only pertain to how the sound it when you get into scratch quality with maybe the exception of the Master Tempo setting. So slide the performance slider all the way left. Set latency to Auto. Leave Safemode and Overclock unchecked (for now) and set the Master Tempo to Advanced and Complexity a value of 1. How do things work now?
If you have some crackling and are using a laptop - you can try the Safemode or Overclock to alleviate the crackles

However, in that timeframe the have been modifications/upgrades to the software with things refined. What may have not worked in the past may work now. So, you can try or not - your choice.

Yes. Try some of the things cstoll has said. What do you have to lose? This way, you are starting fresh, and we won't ask you to do them again.

BTW, one of my external 500g WD drives has a problem, froze the software, and said it didn't have anything on it. Felt like someone kicked me in the stomach, because I DID NOT HAVE A BACKUP, for the 1552 .vob files I had on it. It took me 2 days to copy the drive to another. I am still using the drive, trying to see if it still has a problem. It has stopped after a period, and it is not from heat, as the 2 fans are still working. I know this is not exactly the same, because you said you have the problem with your internal, but something to look at.

I also own 2 500gb Western Digital Drives. One is the pro silver edition with the firewire 800 port and the other is the black one with a usb 2.0 port. On both, if you do not browse through the the Hardrive for "X" amount of time (don't remember the time frame), it will go into a standby mode. Don't know if this is your issue but figured I'd let you know just in case.

When doing nothing it takes ten minutes to go into stanby mode. After that it takes a couple of seconds to wake up when u load a song. But other than that its fine remember i had the same problem with my laptop hard drive too. I tried some new settings last night and i was going through alot of folders and it didn't freeze on me but then again i was not playing any music i was just lableing songs cause for some reason alot of my song titles was blank after the new 5.0 version download is that another glitch?

i was warned the 500GB SATA HDDs get hot. problems start after 3 months to a year of use. If u survive a year ur safe.

ALLI11....This has been talked about on Mobile Beat Forum and one of the members wrote a neat little prog . that reads and writes a tiny file
then deletes and repeats ,,the timing is adjustable and this stirrs the drive so it doesn't "sleep" ...I tried it and it worked great !
I have two 500gb drives that were givin me a fit ,now everything is smooooooth *VBS*
I hope this is helpful
Best to you

Recently, while using virtual DJ on my laptop, my computer goes into sleep mode and won't wake up. This is the only program that it does this with on this laptop. I opened up windows media player and it played for hours without doing that. I have deleted the entire VDJ program and re-downloaded. I have tried many display settings but have determined it is something to do with the program. Btw, it will continue to play music that I have auto-playing in my playlist, but once the screen goes blank, I can't get back to the program without shutting the computer off and re-booting. Very frustrating.

You just bumped a 6 year old thread. Next time you should open your own topic when you have a question.
Could be the setting's in your computer. For Djing purposes everything should be set to high performance. Try going into your computer's performance options->set to Adjust for best performance. Then go to advanced->Adjust for best performance of:Tick the Background Services. Also remove all sleep modes. That will be a starting point. For more setting's and best performance spend some time optimizing your computer for Djing http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Common%20PC%20Performance%20Issues.html

I had a 1TB Toshiba Canavo external that would always go into sleep mode. No Windows settings or USB sleep mode disabling, etc, would fix it. I ended up just ditching the drive and getting a Seagate.
I think drives with an external power supply, while less convenient for hooking up at a gig, are safer as far as avoiding this issue.
