How about an MP3 that has more than one version of the song in one file? For instance, a clean version and a explicit version. The player would let you choose what 'tracks' you wanted to hear, and you could switch on the fly. This would be a pretty cool feature if it would be backward compatible with everything else.

The onlyt way to do that at the moment would be to have two copies - maark one as "Explicit" and the other as "Radio Edit" - work out for yourself which one to play.

Asnarthurvasey said 2 versions.
Either mark one as explicit or something like that in the title or
add it in the comments section.

I wasn't asking how to do it, I already do that, (have seperate versions) have been for years. I was commenting on how cool it would be if that type of file technology existed. Wasn't asking for help, was looking for feedback.

You can do it now. Put both versions on a disc, rip as one, and put separate cue points.

i don't think thats what hes wanting to do. I've thought of this before. But now with video that would be awsome to. That way the clean versions would be blurred out.
One track (file) that has all options; accapella; instrumental; dirty; radio; extended.
Another feature on top of that could be.....lets say in the folder your looking at you have the option to put a check mark next to the ones you want to see.
So lets say your in the hiphop folder & u want a instrumental....put a check mark next to it then scroll through all. This would avoid having so many different folders. Plus lets say your playing a track...and then decide you want the acapella.....instead of having to click on the accapella folder, then look for the track, u can just check the accapela checkbox & wham its right there.
Now there are hack ways of doing this...mp3 tags, cue points etc. But thats not what I'm talking about or looking for.
Maybe one day....its been crazy these past 5 years.

it's an excellent idea......you can never have enough organization.......did you see norway's post about the harmonic mixing and etc.......it was really good but it wasn't a video skin......
