Topic: alpha - What is this effect supose to do?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

When I use this transition all it does is cut from left to right decks video... What is it really supose to do?

it applies an alpha wash

looks like a white haze that moves from one video into another

a bit like the beam out effect in startrek lol
 
It does nothing for me... just switches over from left to right like the "cut" effect. I didn't see it in the effects to redownload? Does anyone know how I can download it seperately and reinstall.

Alpha uses alpha channels in videos, to make a transparent transitions, or overlay.

You need to have videos WITH alpha channels for this to work though.

Kinda like blue screen effect.

Or make alpha channels (a mask really), in a video editor
 
How do you do that (you should have expected that one!)

does it have to be a particular file type like Mpeg or avi? can alpha channels be created in all file types?

Love to see a alpha ready show_logo plugin too, that would be hot!
