I have and use these so here goes........most rugged and best sounding to me are the top of the line and near top of the line akg's (aren't strictly dj phones either) considerably more comfortable sony mdr 700 ; to me they seem to exaggerate the low end but overall good.

I have Sennheisers. Expensive, but great value and sound. HD 25's or 212 Pro's in my opinion.
HD 25's are about $200, rated best at skratchworx: http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews/HeadphoneGroupTest.php

Sennheiser HD-25's all the way! I agree with Niems, they are amazing... I just got em about 2 weeks ago, and they have transformed my DJ'ing experience... They are a bit expensive -- $200 -- but so much better than my previous pair (also Sennheiser, $80 pair...)
It's almost as if I'd been listening to music played through a pillow compared to the crisp clean detail I can hear now through the HD-25's... I haven't used them in a club setting, but apparently they are very good at isolating sound as well, so you can hear exactly what you want to hear with no distractions. And as the above review mentions, even at extremely loud volumes (so high it's painful), the sound is still perfect, no distortions of any kind evident...
