When i ripp promo dvds with the new dell, i use smartripper. then i convert the file by changing the file extention to .mpg. though, it keeps it in vob format. I plug the hdd into my desktop pc and the file name looks like this Madonna - Jump.mpg.vob

does this sound familiar?

You need to go to windows explorer then select "tools" and "folder options", in "view" disable "hide file extensions for known files".

Once you do that you won't see the 2 extensions, you'll only see that one that you have renamed :)

Select the file then mouse right click and "open with" "chose program" and search for winamp.
BTW: if you want that all that kind of files are open with winamp just tick "Use the selected program for opening these kind of files" :)
