Topic: Martin Manias controlled by VDJ DMX?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Just wondering if anyone out there has tried controlling Martin Manias through VDJ's DMX support?

I recently acquired some of them at a "can't refuse" price but my DMX controller programs aren't setup for them. Rather than reprogramming the controller, I figured this might be a good time to start using VDJ to control my DMX.

Any advice?

If they use standard dmx protocol, then it is should be possible. Of cource you will need a dmx dongle to convert usb to DMX.

Thanks Superstom.

I have no doubt that standard DMX is supported and that it is possible, but from looking at the interface, it appears that the capabilities are probably limited; maybe just on/off, chase, etc. May not be particularly useful with the Martin Mania SCX-500 scanners.
I don't yet have the dongle and would like to get an idea of whether or not it is worth the time, effort and money to get involved with this.

Anyone have any experience with DMX for any kind of scanner fixtures through VDJ?

the advantage is that it can sync to the beat of VDJ. Its not going to beat light jockey, espcialy not for controling their own products.

If VDJ implemnted MIDI OUT aswel as IN that wold allow you to sync to compatible DMX controllers and softwares, i think this is allways going to be the best option.

I agree with Xeo,
the possibillities will be limited indeed, using the current VDJ implementation. Hope that the link between Sunlite and VDJ will be created.

This would be a very good option (just my opinion). You could create all your scenes and cues in Sunlite and even view or create them offline, using the visualiser. Then you could fire the scenes and cues from within VDJ. If you play a song that does not have "light points" you could fire the cues and scenes in Sunlite by mouse or midi controller.
