I havn't used the video dj function as of yet

Would I need a usb mixer to control the virtual crossfader?

or would it matter?

Any input would be good

You have two crossfaders, one for audio and one for video. You can use them in software, but you can turn on "Link crossfaders" in Video settings so when you move one, other go too. It's easier that way. A USB controller should be even better for this.

Or you could setup some keyboard shortcuts. Then you can control the video fader with your keyboard. It depends on your needs.

I prefer using the left and right arrow on the keyboard to video crossfade.

i prefer hard cuts when mixing video, i dont think smooth fading looks very good for long when your video mixing, hence i use Left as full fade left, Right as full fade right and up and down for a tiny bit ether way of center fade (for controling the active timecode for TCV position synced effects.)

I use the same shortcuts as anewsome, and with the different transition effects, my mixes are the shit.
