Roy,
Check if you have a network interface that is not connected to any network. I know I have had similar problems with the Xircom network PcCard, and have heard of others with similar issues with other brands. The solution in these cases is either to remove the hardware, or the driver, or just connect that card to a network so that it is not periodically looking for a connection.

DJRoy1,
Check this: http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/41333/Software_Technical_Support/reactivity_and_wave_speed.html
You can also try this: Change to "Desktop or Office use" the Energy Options in your Windows Control Panel instead of "Portable" (or other than Desktop or Office energy profile). Your laptop is going to perform better with this option for sure.
Good Luck!

1.3 MHz should be fine for standard use.

Lol Steve, My atari 800 had 1,79 Mhz CPU, when I was making music & demos in the old 8-bit times, lol
but it's true - i was enough for my standart use. ;-)
