I have to say that Smart Ripper 2.41 is the fastest way to do that. Check it: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm
This program copy each chapter into a vob file (which is a MPG-2 File, same as DVD). You could use it in VDJ without a problem.

Let me just point out that the fastness of a ripping session is largely influenced by the drive used (and naturally by how easely the disc is readable). Most of the drives in commerce are speed-locked when ripping, and can be unlocked by overwriting the firmware with a hacked one. Risky, but often it worth it.
