If an MPEG2 video does not start with a black screen, then the first frame appears to only be half drawn (upper half) and then the next second or two of frames have many artifacts. This is particularly annoying if you plan to loop the beginning beats of a video to mix in or scratch.
I haven't tried with formats other than MPEG-2.
I'm fairly sure that this problem is not specific to my system because when using the external decoder (Elecard in my case) this doesn't occur. Can anyone else confirm for or against my problem description on their own system?

P.S. a video that starts with other than a black screen generally results from the ripping of a video in which the intro is in a separate chapter on the DVD than the main video, such as on Promo Only's Hot Video Series (and others.)
