Anyone have any idea why I can no longer see gifs on my pc. They appear as bmp files. Any ideas? Greatly appreciated.

Not sure why but I may be able to help with sorting it out.

If you are running XP try creating a new user in control panel and log in as the new user. Give the new user administartive rights See if you still have the same problem.

If the problem goes away when you are logged in as the new user follwo these instructions:

Delete your origional user but when asked whether you want to save all your files click yes. Otherwise (like I did) you will loose all 120 episodes of Southpark sitting in a folder on your desktop plus any other important documents in your documents folder or on your desktop.

Create a new user preferably one with the same name as the old one just to make it feel the same.

Now copy all the saved files from your old user back to wherever you want them.

You now have all the fun again of customising all your folders and making the new user feel just like the old one.

Good Luck......

......but remember You MUST SAVE YOUR FILES.

Homeboy: check the MIME type registered for .gif using regedit under [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]\.gif . Content Type should be image/gif
If this is ok, ill try to figure out something else :)
