Topic: 2 Sound Cards - 1 faster that other one

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have 2 sound cards AC'97 and ALS 4000

The ALS 4000 plays faster than the AC'97
(the song just plays quicker?!?)

Does anyone know how to correct this

PLZ help
thanx

Well, are they same slot meaning PCI or ISA. I know ISA is slower then PCI slot (I think PCI runs at 66Mhz ISA runs 33Mhz) This could be the problem. I heard of AC97 but never heard ALS4000. If u have to buy a new one I recommend Santa Cruz!!!

my guess is this is because AC97 is software-based audio - IE it takes CPU processing power to work.

avoid AC97-based sound devices... and stay with real hardware audio (soundblaster, cmedia, yamaha opl3, etc)

1) The PCI bus runs at 33 Mhz, ISA runs at 16 MHz
2) Yes, I have noticed something similar when running atomix through both my hardware and software sound cards.

My solution: Bought a low priced 8738 CMedia 3-D 6 Channel sound card.
