Topic: Soundcard and XP

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I've got a ISA soundcard (Crystal) and it works perfectly in WIN95 and WIN98. BUT in ME, 2000 and XP it causes lots of skipping. The other card I use is onboard (CMI3778) and creates no problems. I think it has something to do with the ISA type bus. Any1 any ideas what to do???????

Try re-installing all the drivers for the soundcard from the manufacturer's website. It's possible that the latest versions windows don't have any updated drivers for a an outdated sound card.

My advice, just go out and purchase a basic 16 bit pci sound card at your local computer store. They are dirt cheap, they'll save you a headache and run slightly faster (the ISA bus runs at 16 Mhz, whereas the pci bus runs at 24 MHz approx.)

I REALLY suggest doing so!

Hope this helps
Dave.

Tnx 4 the advice. I have build my pc into a custom made 19 inch rack mount box. The box is only about 10cm high. I used a isa card because it was all that fitted inside. I will search for a PCI card that will fit. (Have to - XP is far better)

Greetings
