I've been doing lots of mixing at home and want to play at a party in the near future. The problem I see is that the setup at a party is going to be turntables. I can't get my head around how I get into the live mix without stopping the music, plugging my laptop into the mixer and then starting my own set. Stopping the music would surely be a party killer.
Vinly DJs just mix their first song into the last song of the DJ before them. I would like to be able to do the same.

That is a good question! As a certified Bedroom DJ, i have never even thought about this.
My idea:
Most mixers have LINE and PHONO inputs for each channel, because turntables output sound at a different impedance than other sources.
So, plug your laptop into the LINE jacks, and toggle one of the phono channels over to your laptop while the other one continues to play. Mix in that way, and then switch the second channel to LINE as well and you're set.
